MJ Wfhfuf As I eniered fhe room in awe and amazemeni, my eyes wandered fo a corner of 'Ihe room, where a group of my young friends s'l'ood bewildered, beside Iheir anxious molhers. These were 'I'he boys -and girls who were fo be my classmaies fhroughoul our eleven years in school, wiih Ihe exceplion of Kafherine Boger and Lois Gilbow. There were Anne Lerner, Claudia Gales, Inez Pearson, Bobby Doyle Wells, Frances Reeves, Ben Ingram, Jr., Eva Bragg, Carl Bell, Bobby Bru'l'on, Hilly Garrison, Von Ray Parlrer and Andrew Smifh. Under fhe guidance of our firsi grade feachers, Miss Lula and Miss McKinney, we finally learned our ABC's and fha? 'I'he sum of 2+2 is equal +o 3. A+ fhe end of ihe year a sigh of relief swepf over our classroom, when we discovered we were all fo be promo+ed +o fhe second grade. Wifh a year of schooling we 'Ielf assured and confideni on enfering fhe second grade, faughl' by Miss Waniland and Miss Householder. Our enrhusiasm was les- sened by 'lhe faci' ihai Ka'l'herine Boger lefi our midsh however, Mary Ann Waison, who was fo coniinue wiih us the nexl fen years, ioined our class: Our ihird year was supervised by Miss Barlreley and Miss Moore. We were pleasanlly surprised lo find 'lhal' Kafherine Boger had refurned Io our happy fhrong. Miss Howard and Miss Chapman welcomed us wi+h open arms affer hearing fha? we were a quiei and a'Hen'I'ive class. If was fhe year fha? Ones Ross and Bertha Goeflman made fheir appearance. Because Ones was fhe firsi boy fo come io our class since we enfered school, fhere was much hair pulling fo deiermine which girl would ge? fo chase him around fhe school grounds. By fha slain of our 1'ee+h, we passed in+o fha fifrh grade and who should come upon +he scene buf Mary Neale, fo add fo ihe confusion. Mrs. Pegram and Miss Evufhrie overcame +heir impulse 'io declare us a hopeless class and prepared us for fha coming year. A+ lasf we had reached fhe half-way marlr of our goal. Again, a member of our class was missing-none other fhan Lois Gilbow. We were asfonished io find ihaf Mrs. Pegram had become so affeched io us ihai she moved up io be our sixth grade sponsor. We were originally fo be in +he sevenih grade, bui ihe Iwalve grade sysiem was begun, consequenfly, we became members of 'Ihe eighih grade. Our class increased fhis year wifh 'ihe enlrance of Gay Brixey, Georgia Rufh Johnson, Lillian Rofia, Berry Sims, Palsy Wes? and Cleafus Richardson. Mr. Pope and Mrs. Dees pre- pared us for our long-awaifed graduaiion.
