° Carole Justice leads the dancing girls, portrayed by the majorettes. Madame de la Fleur (Betty Stansell) renews her acquaintance with Americans Kid Connor (Ronnie Tribble) and Con Kidder (David Ankeney). “THE RED MILL” Tulips, wooden shoes and a Red Mill set the stage for a gala presentation of Victor Herbert’s musical. The story involves two Americans, Kid Conner, portrayed by Ronnie Tribble, and Con Kidder, por- trayed by David Ankeney, who are stranded in a Dutch town. They are entangled in a scheme to rescue Gretchen from marrying the Governor against her wishes. Her father, learning of the scheme from the keeper of the Red Mill Inn, locks Gretchen in the old Red Mill to prevent her escape until the Governor comes to claim her hand. On returning, the Governor then falls in love with Juliana, Gretchen's aunt. This leaves Gretchen free to marry Hendrick, portrayed by Charles Danner. Her father opposes her marriage to Hendrick until he learns that Hendrick has inherited one million pounds. The work of the concert choir, accompanied by the band, brought out large audiences for two out- standing performances. Gretchen (Betty Jo Clary) and her captain (Charles Danner), the operetta’s romantic leads, serenade each other. The entire company presents the finale. 151
