Christmas baskets, decorated like sleighs and Santa Clauses, were collected by the Hi-Y and given to the Christmas Mother this year. A community Christmas tree at Chamberlayne Shopping Center was decorated by members as another project. In February, the annual Sweetheart Dance was held. Crowning of the new sweetheart highlighted this semi-formal dance. The club made a substantial contribution to the Grayson Murphey Memorial Scholarship Fund. Gray- son was a charter member of the Hi-Y. DISH WASHING INITIATES KEY CLUB MEMBERS Key Club members Rick Simpson, Wayne Thorpe, and Jimmy Sties clean up after an- nual spaghetti supper. 136 Carrying homemade keys and washing dishes after the spaghetti supper initiated fifteen new members into the Key Club this year. The giant keys, made by the prospective members, advertised the spa- ghetti supper which was held before the Tucker football game. A toy drive, a safety project, contributing to the Christ- mas Mother, AFS, and cafeteria, and help- ing a needy family kept the members busy. Teachers were surprised at an afternoon faculty meeting, when members served homemade refreshments as part of their teacher appreciation campaign. As an added courtesy, the faculty received their Christmas dinner free from the Key Club. In March, representatives were sent to the Key Club Capitol District Convention in Norfolk, Virginia.

Have you got your “’SS?’’ was the question asked by mysterious Indians during the Pep Club Sportsman- ship Drive. The other members were disguised as “OOSS” agents to arouse student interest and to pro- mote sportsmanship. Those students who knew ‘’SS”’ was school spirit were given cards stating the Warriors sportsmanship code. Printed on a large sign in the gym was the sportsmanship code which reminded students to exhibit sportsmanship at all athletic events. Sponsored by Miss Trevvett and led by President Delphine Wood, members sold football programs at all the home games. A special edition with pictures of the football players and the homecoming court was published for the homecoming game. Pep Club members promoted honesty during exams in a citizenship drive. They placed in each homeroom signs to be a constant reminder to students of their honor obligations. Members worked earnestly in making posters for not only sports activities but the projects of other clubs also. As a fund-raising project, the Pep Club held a car wash in the spring.
