SMOKE SIGNALS INCREASES COVERAGE Me Providing Henrico with the first six-page edi- tions, the ‘Smoke Signals” staff worked diligently to- ward a better newspaper. Led by sponsor, Mrs. Britt, and Editor-in-Chief, Donna Lampie, the staff’s hard work was evident in a much improved newspaper. The November edition of the ‘‘Smoke Signals’’ announced the names of the five candidates for the 1965 Homecoming Court, which, until then, had been a secret. A later edition announced the names of those students who were nominated for the Senior Superlatives. Color inserts were distributed with each copy of the February issue. These color inserts, not locally published, were another new addition to the paper. Members of the staff attended the University of Richmond Clinic and the Capital District Leadership Conference. The three delegates from ‘Smoke Sig- nals’’ to SIPA were Marilyn Durvin, Alice Hott, and Nancy Burley. Students and faculty were invited to submit let- ters to the editor expressing individual ideas and opinions on any subject. Students were also given an opportunity to voice their opinions on the newspaper. Alice Hott works on a pasteup of a page. 130
