JV. BASKETBALL TEAM PLAYS IN TOURNAMENT Hustle, teamwork, and an effective press were the main ingredients in the J.V.’s success. The team fin- ished second in the J.V. league, compiling a record of 15 wins and 4 losses. This equals the best record of any Henrico J.V. team. Ten players earned letters for their efforts during the season. Ray Butler, with a 10.7 average and Ron- nie Vest, with a 10.4 average, were the leading scor- ers. George Andrews was the leading rebounder with an 8.8 per game average. High points of the season came against arch-rival Tucker. In the first Tucker game the team reached two seasonal highs by shooting 58.5% and scoring 73 points. In the second Tucker game after trailing 24 to 1 at the end of the first quarter, the team came back to win 67-64 in overtime. By virtue of their second place finish, the J.V. played John Marshall’s J.V. in the Capital District Tournament. They lost to John Marshall by a score of 46-43. us) RECORD Henrico 49 Varina 32 Henrico 55 George Wythe 38 Henrico 52 Douglas Freeman 38 Henrico 59 Hermitage 49 Henrico 42 Highland Springs 40 Henrico 61 John Marshall 64 Henrico 73 Tucker aye) Henrico 40 Lane 35 Henrico 43 Thomas Jefferson 36 Henrico 66 George Wythe Sif Henrico 42 Highland Springs 34 Henrico 39 John Marshall 42 Henrico 67 (Overtime) Tucker 64 Henrico 53 Hermitage 40 Henrico 54 Lane 39 Henrico 39 Thomas Jefferson 42 Henrico 35 Douglas Freeman 33 Henrico 54 Varina 42

JV. ENJOYS WINNING SEASON 114 An inexperienced but spirited junior varsity team, led by co-captains Jerry Selden and Mike Sweeney, enjoyed another winning season in 1965. The team’s strong defensive efforts were led by Steve Ennis, Donnell Smith, Bradley Anderson and Jimmy Napier. Offensive standouts included Jerry Selden, Craig Taylor, Jerry Haynes, and Danny Collier. Tucker, as always, provided the most exciting game. A tense atmosphere prevaded as the Tigers edged by the Warriors, 7-0. Warrior opposition was allowed only three touch- downs throughout the season; and in Coach Phil Cop- page’s opinion, the team played well. They compiled a record of three wins, two losses, and two ties. The game statistics, 1-4, do not ex- press the hard-fought and close games and the de- termined effort of each player. The team, coached by Guy Davis, showed marked improvement as the season progressed and defeated Tucker 13 to 7 in the highlight game of the year. Outstanding players for the entire season were Steve Bolton, Bill Jenkins, Cookie Edwards, Bubba Zyglocke, Larry Talley, Charles Davis, Joe Rupp, Mark Bryan, and Mac Fisher.
