Affer eighf days af sea from San Diego, we sighfed our firsf landfall, fhe Hawaiian chain. We headed foward fhe gafhering place , Oahu, on which fhe 50'rh sfafe's capifol, fhe exofic Honolulu, is locafed. We were greefed by fhe World famous Diamond Head overlooking Waikiki Beach. In addifion we nofed fhe Aloha Tower framed by graceful palm frees and fhe holiday air fhaf seemed fo envelope fhe green hazy mounfains and invifing beaches was ever presenf. Here we were af Mifchner's para- dise on earfh , and Mark Twain's loveliesf fleef of islands fhaf lie af anchor in any ocean -fhe land of hula skirfs, poi, pineapples, fourisfs, Kaiser, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, Schoffield Barracks, Waikiki Beach, surf boards, brown-skinned wahines, leis and delighfful weafher. No one had fo waif on us af liberfy call as we sei' ouf fo see 'rhis paradise. We had fo admire fhe sun fan on fhe nafives and could fell righf off fhey spenf some of fheir fime in fhe sun. lf wasn'f long before we were lobsfer red, and we felf like, and sfood ouf like, sore fhumbs. We soon found ouf fhaf fhese foreign looking Americans knew lofs of English, and 'rhaf Aloha meanf fhe equivalenf of Hello , as long as fhey could undersfand us, we were OK. Waikiki Beach was foo crowded for us, so we wenf on up fo Punchbowl, Hawaii's Nafional Cemefery. lf furned ouf fo be one of fhe mosf sfriking poinfs we were fo see. A four of fhe island revealed many quief beaches and coves as well as a beaufi- ful Mormon Temple.
