There have been many happy associations in school work. I have found many things of interest in assemblies, supervision, discipline and guidance. In band. glee club. 4-H Club. Future Farmers of America. football, basketball and baseball. there have been many successful performances of which you will always have pleasant memories. There have been a few disappointments and defeats along with the many accomplishments. Time will put a priceless value on the contents of this volume. As you scan these pages. you will have forgotten some names. places. teachers, games and contests: but many fond memories of happy associations and friendships will remind you of the pleasant and happy days spent in I-lennessey High School. To the faculty, alumni and students. I extend my hearty greetings and best wishes for a life enriched with many blessings and crowned with successful ac- complishments. Murray, Wilma Streck, Joanne Roberts, Elaine Clements, Erma Schutkesting, Marcia Cain, started out on a very great adventure. This adventure or flight was to last twelve long years and to take us as a group through grade and high school. In the first grade we made successful strides in learning, we thought, but, we looked with awe and envy on our elders, the second graders and hoped for the day their places would be ours. The next year we added Evelyn Rankin to our group and moved up to the second grade, only to find, the objects of our awe and envy were still a step ahead. We worked diligently hoping to surpass them eventually. Next year we were three inches taller and in grade three. Our number did not increase that year, but at the end of the term we were happy to be promoted to grade four. School proved to be a little different here for we had our first introduction to an Honor Roll. To gain a place on the Honor Roll meant top grades and how we worked to achieve that distinction. Shirley Weeks was the only new member added during the fourth year. In the fifth grade Audrey Grimes joined us and soon we flew on to the sixth grade and added responsibilities. Don Haymaker joined us there to give us strength, and as the year ended, we felt that we were really gaining in knowledge and importance. jim Will was our only new member in the seventh grade, and the year proved rather uneventful for we kept thinking of next year, when the honor of being the all-important eighth grade class would be ours. True we had begun to take ourselves very seriously, but were rudely shocked to find the adults about us secretly laughed at our growing-up pains as they called it. As we entered the eighth grade, we found a goodly number ready to cast their lot with ours, for our fame as an extraordinary class had spread. The additions were: Bill Kious, Carolyn Sturgeon, Dorothy Streck, Rose Ann Mirkes, and Bill Henry, A little more grooming, lot of good advice, and difficult lessons marked this year. A very simple graduation ceremony and we were ready for the really big event, high school. In the ninth grade we really grew in numbers for fourteen new pupils joined us: Joyce Craun, Donna Berard, Elizabeth Green, Frances Vaverka, Albert Streck, Wayne Lee, Evelyn Vaverka, Emma Zelnicek, Wilma and Velma Patocka, Helen Shimanek, Richard Patocka, LeRoy Bugg, and Richard Hamil. In the tenth two more were added, Thelma Wehling and Don Wfood. In high school we found character-building qualities as well as text-book subject matter being emphasized. XVe were urged to make honesty, loyalty, good sportsmanship, and fair- play a part of every day living. So with work and play, good days and bad, passed our tenth and eleventh years, Then came the last and best of them all-seniors, wonderful? Yes and no. Dale Driskell and Karcher Hobbs joined our ranks in the fall of 1949 rounding out our number to thirty- eight. The flight of another class of eagles is about to be finished. Commencement time finds us ready and eager to start down the long road ahead that, we hope leads to success. 6 1950 EAGLE STAFF 23 214 25 l.ct't to right: Elizahcth Grccn and Dorothy Strccl-1, Typistg Shirley Weeksg Artist: Walter Sthwutz, Etlitorg .lo.innc Rohcrts, Photographcrg Elaine Clements, Assistant Editor. ,l Q- J' LeRoy Bugg Donna Bcrard Virgil Melton Carolyn Sturgeon THE EAGLE SALES STAFF l K H6444 Wa!!
