Mt, S Principal's Message Courage and Values Courage is held as one of the highest ideals in American culture. lt is one of our cherished traditions. Each of us is asked to display cour- age each day, but we usually don't recognize it by that name.. By one dictionary definition, courage is that quality of mind which enables one to face difficul- ties and danger with firmness or Without fear. From this we can see that courage can be demon- strated in different ways. If it were broken down into categories, or different kinds of courage, we would have a long list that would label the various types. 8 On this list We would surely have the courage to establish a set of values. We cannot do this with preaching or indoctrination. It must come from Within the individual. All of us as Americans must assume some responsibility to stop the drift to apathy and indifference that is creeping into our society. Iwould urge each of you to have the courage to establish a set of values, so that you can live a life guided by the highest of ideals. george Efff'0ff George N. Elliott The office gained a part-time secretary this year. Mrs. Betty High was on hand to help Mrs. Virginia Davis and to keep the books for the school. One of the first tasks they were faced with was that of electing new officers. The new officers were: Deanna Croft, president, Luther Horsley, vice -president, Shirley Daugherty, secretaryg Don Alexander, treasurer, Maralea Dehlingerg student council repre- sentative, and Candee Horton, ser- geant-at-arms. After settling into their new routine, several of the members of the Freshman Class were soon in the swing of things by joining the offered clubs and activities. The GRA initiation became the object of many freshman girls, while several boys tried out for junior varsity sports. ' ' During the Homecoming float Contest, the freshmen gained hon- ors by winning second place. Later in the year they went on to show their school spirit by giving enthu- siastic support to their carnival queen candidate, Jeri Rice. They won third place. A Christmas dance, sponsored by the class, was one of the many activities that rounded out the freshman year. New Cho lenges Shy students can always be found in the Freshman Hall.
