Fonswonn grea castles, before the noble family and amid the crowding convocation of gaping retainers, the troubadour of old sang his songs of high deeds and courtly love. His themes were great, for milord, and gracious, for milady. And there was the usual buffoonery, for the laughter of all. When the bows andu laughter were over, he took his lyre and left. Beyond th'e eyes of men, along the pilgrimage routes or under a nameless lonely sky, another song rose from his lips in ' , loyous, personal accents. And here all songs were born. Troubadour - the word means a finder. Perhaps the troubadour's art is lost today. We make mighty choruses but c t f' d anno! in our own voices. With iaded ears we hear the anthems of common praise and miss the sound of one self's singing.
