IN CELEBRATION . For 75 years Hendrix's aim has been to provide high grade Christ- ian education. The first effort began in 1836, after the first Methodist Conference in Arkansas. The attempt to correlate, unify, and stand- ardize educational institutions resulted in the merging of Henderson- Brown in 1929 and Calloway Women's College in 1933 with Hendrix College. Hendrix developed from a school at Altus, Arkansas, Central Collegiate Institute, formed in 1876 by Rev. 1. L. Burrow. The Meth- odist Conference bought the property, and in 1889, the name was changed to Hendrix College in honor of Bishop E. R. Hendrix. ln 1890, Hendrix was moved to Conway, Arkansas. Two schools were consolidated into Hendrix: Henderson-Brown in 1929, and Calloway Women's College in 1933. Presidents of Hendrix College have been Rev. 1. L. Burrow C1884-871, Dr. A. C. Millar C1887-1902, 1010-19132, Dr. Stonewall Anderson C1902-19101, Dr. H. Reynolds C1919-455, Dr. Matt L. Ellis C1945-19585, Dr. Marshall T. Steel C1958---D.
