Bishop One Hundred Five During the first semester this year, the Dramatics Club wrote, compiled, and produced a full length as- sembly program. During Mountain Heritage Week, the | ( ft , organization also presented an original one-act play, TANLALLICA skits, and songs. The second semester activities began with preparing three one-act plays for the Carolina Dramatics Association Drama Festival and public per- formance. In February, Dramatics Club gave a program for the Friends of the Library. These performances are in addition to meetings and committee work. One Hundred Six Club Sponsor Mr. T. E. Orr The main purpose of the National Honor Society is to promote scholarship among the students and render service to the school. Each fall the top 5% of the Junior Class and the top 10% of the Senior Class are tapped for member- ship in the Valentine Chapter of the National Honor Society, on the basis of character, leader- ship, service, and scholarship. In November, the Honor Society was placed in charge of College Day, an event set aside to 2) Maiternell Honor Socisty familiarize students with colleges around the area. In December, during Mountain Heritage Week, the Honor Society recognized outstanding people born and reared in Appalachia. Each six weeks, the Honor Society presents the scholarship cup to the homeroom with the highest scholastic average. In the spring top sophomore students are honored with the Sopho- more Tea. Members also sell tickets at athletic events and hold tutoring classes. Athletic Department has had one of the most successful years in the history of Hendersonville High School. Along with teaching good sportsmanship and inspired competition, Coach Joe Hunt and his staff have created one of the top powerhouses in Western North Carolina sports. The students at H.H.S. have a wide variety of sports to enter — football, basketball, baseball, track, wrestling, cross country, golf, and tennis. Also, in the spring, for students not involved in varsity sports, intramural basketball and volleyball are offered. The 1969 Bearcat Baseball Team finished the season with usual Bearcat quality. The Bearcats disposed of nine opponents while losing to only three. Mike Freeman was the only representative at the state meet in Chapel Hill; however, the team should have a great amount of experience for next year’s season. Wrestling, in its third year at H.H S., has gained much popularity. The Bearcat Grapplers have gained valuable experience that aided them in their 1970 season. This group is the Varsity Cheerleaders. They come to every game and lead the sometimes spiritless student body in cheers to support the Bearcats.
