It is the morning time of life when all is change and wonder. It is a world of sudden friendships . . . and short sorrows... quiet moments . . . and serious thoughts. Youth is a magic place of dreams... where everything is possible and the best is just beginning. Youth is a timeless place... where minutes are not numbered and hours are sweet with happiness. It is a time for running . . . and reaching... and touching... and seeing . . . and tasting .. . and hearing . . . and learning. It isjoy ...and laughter .. . and make-believe. It envolves many things, but above all, the power of going out of oneself and seeing and appreciating whatever is noble and loving in another. One Hundred-Sixty-Three The time of Hendersonville High School 1969 is quickly passing. For some there will be no more seven minute breaks or “short” fifteen minute announce- ments, no more Pep Rallies, and no more Hail to the Red and White. The year has gone too quickly and only a few flighting moments remain in which we may consider ourselves a part of H.H.S. The Senior has given to his school but the rewards he will carry with him are far greater. His thoughts are many; his emotions, mixed. He has changed since orientation. Looking back he can see all that H.HLS. really is. Hendersonville High School is not just a school, it is the student—the student’s spirit. It is a smile as one greets a friend, the pride of the crowd in their winning team. These are reflections of the “spirit of H.H.S..” Without the laughter, the sadness, the excitement, or the confusion, H.H.S. would be three empty buildings with no other purpose than to silhouette a skyline. The spirit of Hendersonville High School, Mr. Bearcat, makes the difference. When we began the 1969 LAUREATE almost a year ago, we hoped to represent this year’s events and to make this book express the spirit of H.H.S. The intent observer may glimpse our efforts within these covers for we have tried to say many things. We have tried to place emphasis on life and to show you as you are—real people. We have tried to eliminate copy as much as possible so that our interpretations might not mar your special memories. From the moment you begin to look at this book until the moment you close its covers, you will see many changes. We made these changes because we felt that through them we could form one picture—one memory that would depict H.H.S. These changes were made, not to break with tradition for traditions sake, but to reveal H.H.S. as it should be remembered. If we were right, hundreds of you would not make us change. If we were wrong, those of you proclaiming our faults could not make it so. Looking back, we find that there is much we would wish improved. However, when this book is delivered to you, the Student Body, we will hold a great deal of pride in what we have accomplished. We ask only that you accept the 69 LAUREATE as our total attempt to serve you. We dedicated ourselves to do our best. Years from now when someone comes across this dusty volume, we believe that our dreams will have become realities. One Hundred-Seventy-Eight co iy : 5 ot Sa ae oe ett See WN
