Our school system is operated by Hendersonville City Board of Education whose members are appointed by the City Commission- ers who are elected by the people. Few people realize the amount of effort that the Board devotes to the school system. It is the duty of the Board to engage personnel to maintain buildings and facili- ties, and most importantly, to obtain necessary funds. If teachers and pupils work together in the classrooms, they cannot be insensitive to overtones of the cultural problems and the issues that come to the forefront in homes and in schools. I wish to congratulate Henderson ville High School in the way it is dealing with these cultural developments in a way that adds to the dignity, freedom, moral stamina, and well-being of this community. I am sure that your labors on the 1967-68 Laureate have been pleasant and rich in meaning. Congratulations to you and the entire Senior Class. C. M.
