DEDICATION Throughout his years at Hendersonville High School, Mr. Swofford has given his students much more than just a knowledge of mathematics; they have received from him social commentaries, philo- sophical discussions, history lectures, demonstra- tions of scientific laws, and innumerable laughs. Anyone could, with the proper training, teach math; but not just anyone couldteach it as Mr. Swof- ford does. He is respected not out of fear but out of admiration. We will always remember him for his unique wit and common sense. Therefore, we, the Senior Class of 1965, sin- cerely dedicate this eighteenth edition of the LAUREATE to Mr. Harry Swofford. Few people realize the amount of effort that the Board devotes to the school system. It is the duty of the Board to engage personnel, to maintain buildings and facilities, and most importantly, to obtain necessary funds. The Board works through the superintendent, who has direct contact with school personnel. SEATED, left to right: Mr. Hugh Randall, Superintendent; Mr. Ben Prince; Mr. John Gregory. Leads Student SL ody The Student Council of Hendersonville High School is the governing body of student activities. Members of the council are elected by their respective homerooms. The Student Council member is a strong medium through which student opinion is heard and council activity is related to the homeroom members. Under the direction of capable leadership, this year's council conducted many worth- while projects and money raising activities. The council aided students by presenting each of them a copy of the Student Handbook. Parties were also sponsored for the en- joyment of students. Money raising projects included the selling of Student Directories, the selling of school emblem patches, and the collecting of empty soft drink bottles. Money earned by the Student Council will go for a number of things including the financing of a foreign exchange student at H.H.S. for next year. The Student Council continually tries to give each student a voice in student govern- ment and strives to help each student to help himself toward becoming an interested and active citizen of the school. 81 L. We believe that the experience of playing athletic games should be a part of the education of all boys and girls who attend school at H.H.S. Participation in sound athletic programs, we feel, contributes to health and happiness, physical skill and emotional maturity, social competence and moral values. We believe that cooperation and competition are both important components of American life. Athletic participation can help teach the values of cooperation as well as the spirit of competition. Playing hard and playing to win can help to build character. So also do learning to take it'’ in the rough and tumble of vigorous play, experiencing defeat without whimpering and victory without gloating, and disciplining one's self to comply with the rules of the games of good sportsmanship. With your help, we will continue to try to get as many boys and girls as possible to participate in the athletic program at H.H.S.
