How did we do it? Many answers would be heard were these questions asked, but perhaps the most nearly true answer would simply be, We could not have come this far without our parents. They have loved, guided, fed, and clothed us through our growing pains into, through, and out of adolescence. They have seen us rise and fall, they have sometimes endured us, even though they saw us going wrong, in order to bring us to maturity through making our own decisions. We all hope we shall be able to meet the world by the knowledge gained from our parents. When we look back to our high school years, our parents will occupy a very prominent place in the SILHOUETTES of our youth. In loving appreciation, we, the SENIOR CLASS of 1958, dedicate this LAUREATE to our PARENTS. FOREWORD As our horizons broaden and the portals of the future open to us, we will strive to put away childish things and seek fulfillment in our separate calls of life. While we are going forward, ever achieving, to form new and more lasting memories, perhaps, those which we now hold dear will not die, but will merely fade into the background of our lives to become SILHOUETTES of our youthful experiences. :I II ,,5L-ffleo, I, A il ' ' .gf .,-- llf I 'ff Infdvf 1-01.151-' 1! T re s er Page Sixteen i958 will be a cherished year to us. We will be able to look back to it and the memories it holds with a smiling face. i958 ends the four years which began with a year of new experiences. As freshmen, we learned to adjust to the schedule of our different classes and new teachers. As sopho- mores, we became even more set in the groove as permanent and full- fledged high school students. As iuniors, we dreaded, but overcame the writing of term papers, looked forward to the Junior-Senior with anticipa- tion, and wondered if our senior year would be as wonderful as we expected. Finally, as seniors, we have discovered that perhaps the senior year really is the best of all. The former years of new discoveries and new lessons could be bound together in this one year for we have learned much and perhaps have grown more toward becoming mature young people in this year than ever before. Some of us are continuing our education in college, some are not, but whatever our plans, the high ladder of achievement will always be waiting to be climbed by anyone. As we go forward to new goals, perhaps this senior year will be representative of all the SILHOUETTES of our youth. i ATKINS k is F iii? tl'? I . 1147 ... We will remember many SILHOUETTES which will be representative of our iunior year in high school, for it was a year of maturity for many and a year of fun for all. Memories of Junior-Senior night term papers in English and American history book reports will fill our minds in remembering high school days. Perhaps so, but several SILHOUETTES representing each year will appear in our mind's eye when we reminisce. Having finished only the second year of high school, most of our memories and major impressions are yet to be experienced. The small incidencesQ which at the time probably seemed great, will disappear but soon reappear to supplement and enrich the SIL- HOUETTES of our future. ,,, 0 fr .A .Q 'gin ,Q fi A : if W i ii, J, W :K K ' ,Q f , EQ' ' gf' , M me 2, M, , + , Lelr f 4 , ,HK . , . i ri ' 'er 'W' A F ' ' - F 42 ,X mst 12 . Canton came into the Homecoming game of the Bearcats with an 18 game winning streak. They left the city with a blemish on their record after barely managing a 13-13 tie. Once again the locals traveled to Memorial Stadium where they de- feated the Reynolds Rockets 26-6. The last game of the season found the Myers Park Mustangs, who later won the Western Division AA title, at the local field. Once again, the Bearcats rose to the cause and tied the Mus- tangs O-O. So ended another year of gridiron glory for the Bearcats. Check that stiff arm! The 'Cats won their second game of the season when they routed Erwin 31-6. Traveling to Waynesville, the locals lost a real heartbreaker when the Mountaineers eked out a 7-0 de- cision. Playing Brevard for the second time, the Cats again lost, but only after a hard game in which they had a lead at one time. The score of the game was 13-7. Keep those knees up, Poteet!
