SENIUH CLASS MICHAEL WEAVER President SALE BURWELL Vice-President MARY ANDERSON Secretary-Treasurer MAVPIIA HI-LWCLEY , , Reporter UFFIEEHS CLASS HISTUHY In the fall of 1948 a group of students entered the halls ol' H. H. S., thirty-eight freshmen were among the number. These freshmen had a task before them. They had to decide what subjects to take and then try to remember where the subjects were taught. At last we were settled enough to choose Mrs. Ellis sponsor and Mickey Weaver president. A year passed and now we were sophomores. Again we chose Mickey Weaver president and Mrs. Ellis sponsor. One of the memorable events of this year was a hayride. We went to the lock, then to Gallatin where we had re- freshments. lt hardly seemed possible that we were upper- classmen, and that two years of our high school experiences were in the past. This was a very exciting year because we were now among the leaders of the school. We elected Mary Ander- son president and Mrs. Ellis sponsor. This year one of our number made a name for him- self in the world of sports. Conway CBuckD Boone was chosen captain of the football squad. He led the team well and they won seven out of ten games. Shortly after the football season he was called into service. The highlight of this year was the Junior-Senior Reception. It was semi-formal and the gym was decorated to carry out the motif of April Showers. For recreation, folk games were played after which refreshments were served. The fourth year of our high school career brought about with it a decrease in number as several of our boys had joined the army. We began our year with the following as class of- Hcers: Mickey Weaver-President, Sale Burwell -Vice-President, Mary Anderson-Secretary Treasurer, and Mavella Hewgley-Reporter. This year, two of our class members were chosen as captain in the field of sports. Jack Brown was football captain and Hazel Mundy was basketball captain. Among our many responsibilities this year were the task of editing the Commando Comet and GOI.DEN MEMORIES. Mary Anderson was chosen editor of the GOLDEN MEMORIES and Shirley King was chosen editor of the Commando Comet. As graduation now approaches we have se- lected June Hickman will maker, Virginia Steele giftorian, and Mary Anderson class prophet. Our journey has ended-four years of our life are gone, four golden years of fun and friends, of football games, banquets, and exams. In front of us still lie the paths we must follow, all of which we hope will be just as shining, and new as our happy years at H. H. S.
