They are chairman and co-chairman of the music department, sponsor of the Hen- derson lnstitute Marching and Concert Bands. They voluntarily give so much of their time to their students and their school. Everyone respects these two teachers and looks up to them for advice and help. They are never too busy to stop and talk with a student or to help the school in any way they can. In appreciation for such devoted service the Annual Staff proudly dedicates the 1967 Panther to Miss E. Drake and Mr. I. R. July. Dedication - 1966-67 Miss J. E, Hicks is one of Henderson Institute's most outstanding teachers. She received her A. B. from Spellman College and M, A, from the University of Michigan. She enjoys teaching just as her students enjoy being with her in class. Her sincere interest in her students is genuinely appreciated. Miss Hicks has many interests other than teaching. Her hobbies include reading and music. The Panther staff is proud to dedicate this Annual to you Miss J. E. Hicks. Om Pa rents We would like to take this opportunity to bestow upon our parents this deserved honor because of their love, devotion, inspiration, understanding, and their never ending patience. 5 ,- W sg cw r-s Xx- 1' 1'f'vs. ff A s- f x Y 'iii ,.,- b gil'-j I, V I Q h,,,,V, 1 ff ' '-A-'ir4- 4 1 A g+- LYJQ Qky ,,f'9xf55-133 .74-.f' ' -5,13 74 , '-' '- ' ' 11 1 ' awful 1 1 h - . -fr IPQWQUSFY Ye ars would , ,., L. -.xx 1 1 1 1 ' ff 1 1 1 1 1 1 ' : .,. 1 . , rg -1' 'fun 1 , X. ,.-. vs a f, ,.-l-- -,iv 1 -Q s if 1-1--f . The basic idea in planning the Panther has been the creation of a book that will meet these requirements. Joyful times and thoughtful moments have been selected as subjects for the picture story of the year. Each division page features a well-known saying and a picture of some Historical place you may have seen during the year. The staff hopes you will begin reading the history of this year with a great deal of anticipation. When you close the book, it is hoped that you will have reaped a profit of renewed memo- ries ofthe days of the Black and Gold. MW? 4? 95 if M ffgifwf f W Class Hirfmy We the Senior Class of Henderson Institute, County of Vance, and State of North Carolina in the year 1966-67, will present to you the history of their journey up a long and prosperous road to success, The fall of 1963 was a fine and well organized year when our class set foot on this campus. We walked the first time on our journey with Mr. J. T. Marrow, Mrs. M. S. Ball, Mrs. S. M. Boyd and Mr, A. Stevens, who guided and kept us from falling along the way. We liked Henderson Institute, so well that we stayed on until the new year of 1964 which made us full-time Freshmen. 1 During our Freshman year we were small, compact and clever, but the most of us stayed together. A short rest period and we started our long journey once again, The year had pro- gressed as we stopped to pick up the students from Kittrell, Carver, Oak Grove, and New Hope, We took up new guides. Mr, Faucette, Mr. Jones, Mr. Collect, Mrs. Simmons, Mr. Bullock, Mr. Marrow, Mr. Crumby and Mr. Stevens. With the extra curricular activities such as Football, Baseball, Track, Basketball and Band, those who kept with us on this journey became well knowng Samuel Hayes - captain of the Foot- ball team, Bobby Scott - captain of the Basketball and Baseball teams, Ronald Douglas - co-captain of the Football team, Micheal Alston - Drum Major for the Band and Sallie Peace - Head Majorette, and captain of the girls basketball team. Our Sophomore year proved to be the best so far, as we prepared for another rest period and waited to be named juniors, After the rest period, we were on the road again. Now, we are around the bend. For those who stumbled and fell they are now sitting on the shoulder of the road won- dering whether to start again or just turn back. The Prom made us continue to travel until graduation. The theme for the Prom was Moon Light and Roses. It turned out to be the best ever presented with the help of Mrs. Ball, Mrs. Boyd, Mr. Bullock, Mr Stevens, and Mr, Faucette. Now, this is really the big rest. When we finish this one, it will prove that we, this magnificent class, is capable of taking the throne as seniors. The moment has come, we are now seniors, We have scuffled, and scrambled, so now, we come to the .dead end of our journey here at Henderson Institute, The doors of life swing violently, waiting for the class of 1966-67 to shut and lock them. We are Seniors, dignified, well liked, honorable, and most of all, we have the ability and potentials to be young men and women. It has been a long, and hard journey but it has proved to be rewarding, GQ of MLW, . 1 1 L - '1Ii1rE541 2 'Tm -- :? 'rr'-rv-- S--V ,QQ ,.,,,- ' A gs Q ii! ,...uu4..,-hi-Ki, ' I 0. We, the Senior Class of 1967, Town of Henderson, County of Vance, State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and mental condition, do hereby publish our last will and testament. To our Principal: We leave our thanks knowing that the supervision you administered through the years was always in our best interest. To the Faculty: We leave you an asprin to relieve some of the pain we have caused you through the past years. To the Juniors: We leave our ability to create your own goals, not to follow others, but to blaze your own trail. Individual responsibility is the first step to success. To the Sophomores: We leave our strong constitution to withstand what lies ahead of you, To the Freshmen: We leave you hard times which you will have, but the will to go on to smother them, To our Senior Advisors: We leave our thanks for your patience in guiding us to the end. To do this, the course gives a basic background of the histories and governments ol' different countries of the world. These are studied and compared to our own country's history and government, These subjects are highlighted by many films, Some reviewing important happenings of past histotyg others covering happenings of today. ln classrooms, discussions were long and heated as the elections presented many points for argument. H-I students were given a choice of their particular candidates in the mock election.
