The addition ' of Mr. William Hina to the coaching staff was A one of the contributing factors to the success enjoyed by the football team. Because of the lack of experienced men this wasn't supposed to be the Flash's year. However, they made it their year by coupling determination with an inspired attitude. The surprising Flashmen com- piled a very impressive record, as they wound up with a 7-3-l slate. But, more important, each boy has learned good sportsmanship, both on and off the field. 44 if .ln Coaches Hrna Chapman l L ll as Af MM Shelton and Gore 1 V Y 4 nhconn l 945 -Q- 3- Q0 xii-I s QL' Managers L11es, Goldsberry, Herron, Cartwrrght, Ball. 45 Henderson Henderson Henderson Henderson Henderson Henderson Henderson Henderson Henderson Henderson Henderson 3 2 2 2 1 33 0 6 14 25 0 Provrdence Bowlmg Green Evansvrlle North 13 Hopkrnsvllle Caldwell County 14 Sturg1s Paducah 20 Madrsonvrlle 13 Morganfleld 0 Davress County 13 Owensboro 27 7. 1,4 '- vm. , 2 in , W Tw , ' 7 A- . It serves as a medium for the exchange of ideas and the discussion of school rulings between the students and the faculty. Each homeroom is represented on the council by an elected representa- tive who must maintain an academic average of C or above. In addition to their governmental responsibilities, the Student Council sponsors yearly Sadie Hawkins Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, and the Heart Fund Drive. Jerrs Grifli Auld Lang Syne. . 1 n, Marsha Connell . . . Class We, The first class to complete four wonderful years in Henderson High School, have reached that great day, our CJ MMENCEMENT l-HQTOIZY What kind of day was IT? Why, it was a lovely late summer day of I955. lt was a day almost like any other school day. With one exception! The high school students waiting to enter the beautiful new Henderson High School were excited. One group of students was perhaps more ex- cited than the others, and rightly so because they would be the first graduating class who would have all four years in this new school. This eager group was the Freshmen. Our freshman days were similar to all the others pre- ceding these with one exception, we were now HIGH SCHOOL students. Along with our new positions went the responsibilities of our rank, so we were soon dispersed to our homerooms with Mrs. Sights, Mrs. King, Mrs. Crafton, Mr. Chapman, Mr. Plain, and Mr. Claycomb as our homeroom advisors. Immediately we set to work to organize our class by electing our class officers who were Sonny Ward, President, Jimmy Ray Willett, Vice-President, and Jim Wilson, Secretary. Jim Wilson and Sonn Mills were among the football layers who brought home a victory from Owensboro in the Thanksgiving Day game. Our football team, with a streak of winning victories and no losses, won the WKC Championship for the 1955-56 season . We were delighted to have Sondra Stone as a candidate for Basketball Queen with Donna Dickerson as a band majorette. Following our summer vacation, we once again entered the doors of Henderson High School, only this time we were sophomores. Our second year in high school was filled with many varied activities. The first task with which we were faced was the election of our class officers who were Sonny Ward, President, Glenda Barnett, Vice-President, Betsy Reid, Secretary and Treasurer, and Bud Crafton, Reporter. We placed six members of our class in the Audubon Chapter of the National Honor Society They were Bud Crafton, Beverly McClanahan, Jerry Rhoads, Wanda Collins, Charlotte Steele, and Gary Tooley. Sherian Holmes and Tommy Owen were chosen for All-State Chorus. We were well re resented on the gridiron with Sonny Mills, Bud Crafton, Jimmy Ray Willett, and Jim Wifason on the football team and Sondra Stone as our cheerleader. Sondra was also our candidate for Basketball Queen . Our basketball team was under the capable management of Eddie Owens. ln the latter part of our sophomore year, the band journeyed to Washington, D.C. to par- ticipate in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. They were named the second best concert band in the nation. Among those who made the trip to Washington were Carlyle Bailey, Kenneth Hutcheson, Gary Tooley, Wayne Walton, Sharon Freeman, Steve VanMeter, Wayne Wilson, and Sonny Beavan. Donna Dickerson and Jean Porter led the band as majorettes. As the summer fled and early autumn approached, we found ourselves once again en- veloped by our studies and school activities. Class officers for our junior year were as follows: Lili Clay, President, Sonny Ward, Vice- President, Wanda Collins, Secretary and Treasurer, and Nina Drur , Reporter. Aloha Tapp and Sondra Stone as cheerleaders cheered our football and basketball teams on to many victories. Our football players were Jim Bantly, Bud Crafton, Jimmy Ra Willett, Sonny Mills, Mel Hunt, Tommy Owen, Bill Haynes, Sonny Ward, Bobby Stone, Edclie Nieten, Jerry Griffin, Jim Wilson, Mike Pullen, Eric Roberts, and Jerry Rhoads. Carlyle Bailey led our band as Drum Major along with Donna Dickerson, Jean Porter, and Sharon Freeman as majorettes. Wayne Walton represented our school at All-State Band. Our basketball team, with Ronnie Hape as manager, consisted of seven juniors. They were Bill Haynes, Bud Crafton, Sonny Mills, Jim Bantly, Jerry Rhoads, Jimmy Jacobs, and Sonny Ward, with Jimmy Jacobs receiving honor as the Most Valuable Player and as a mem- ber ofthe All-District Team . In March, l958 the Honor Society, at its annual induction service, inducted Jeanie Davis, Judy Martin, Aloha Tapp, and Peggy Griffin. Traveling by rocket through outer space, seeking news, we recently renewed some acquaintances of twenty years ago . Arriving at the first Rocket Station we were amazed to see many friends. Among them were Sondra Stone and Sonny Ward wearing the celestial crowns of the Queen and King of Outer Space. ln the procession following the king and queen we recognized some of the ambassadors from the League of the Universe! the fleet-footed Jimmie Ray Willet from Mercury, the beautiful Judy Martin from Venus and the famous senator, Jerry Rhoads. Joining our friends in the royal procession we all went to breakfast at a Vitamin Cap- sule Inn owned by Billy Burton and Wayne Walton . Our meal was served by those specialists in Space Economics, Dorris Clark, Phyllis Anderson, Ruby Cobb and Lyndia Ellis. After a delicious breakfast, Louis Armstrong, the High Exalted President of Saturn, gave an informative lecture on Universal Law. Ray Hudson's Combo, consisting of Billy Brown, Steve Van Meter and Ray, entertained us after the lecture with music that makes the milky way smooth as milk. While our rocket was being serviced at an outer space service station operated by Sonny Mills and Marsha Connell, ,we bought a newspaper. Imagine our pleasure in seeing Carlisle Bailey's name as the editor. Reading the ads, we saw that Betsy Reid was sponsoring the pro- duction of Cosmic Ray Shampoo, guaranteed to rid your hair of Star-dust. on the front page of the paper we read that Mel Hunt, Tracy Mabrey, Paul Goodley and Kenneth Hut- cheson, who travel faster than the speed of light in their new rocket-ships, have been challenged to a race by Bobby Stone, the best driver on Earth. Jesse Oglesby, Melton Griffin and Franklin McCormick were the first to make an expedition to Pluto. David Ramsey, Tommy Owen and Sidney Smith were spending their vacations skiing on the rings of Saturn . A picture of Bobby Hayes, Bud Crafton and Sharon Freeman on the front page caught our eye. Because of the brightness of their heads they were being proposed as permanent residents to light the dark side of the moon . In Outer Space Science, Dr. Susannah English with the aid of her staff, Aloha Tapp, Nina Drury and Nancy Parker, were completing many successful biological experiments dealing with the plant and animal life found in the milky way. Drs. Eric Roberts, John Riggs, Carlos Miller and Shirley Vandiver were universal physicists, having computed the molecular construction of Betelguse, the brightest star. Viki Preston, Sherian Holmes, Carol Boswell and Judy Shelton were leaders of the Girls Outer Space Group, whose object was to investigate the masculine population in our neighboring planets. Sonny Beaven, Mike Pullen and Jean Porter, were teaching the latest dance steps of rocket propulsion to their many eager students. Starlit Beauty Shop, specializing in heavenly hair cuts, was operated by Josephine Evans and Retz Fulkerson. Wanda Collins, the fashion designer, and her staff, Carolyn Cox Norman, Judy Vaughn and Patti Hall advertise fashions out of this world. The business world in outer space is as complicated as everything else.
