Tlus IS the year 1957 By means of modem mechamsms and rnventrons we take you back to the year 1953 where two famous hrstonans, K and K, are d1gg1ng through old records of the class of 1957, Henderson Hrgh School The school 15 Barret Hrgh School before the student body moved rnto Henderson Hlgh I'm Kammerlohr Thls 1S my partner, Kltchen It's the frrst of September as we start through these frles The records show a bunch of green freshmen runnrng through the halls trying to srgn up for classes Trme passes from September into October and Sadle Hawklns Day comes around That day most of the grrls were determrned not to be old mards However, the boys were just as determrned to remarn bachelors and a desperate race was run Judy Davrdson, the smallest grrl 1n our class proved the supenonty of that year s freslunan grrls over semor boys when she chased a 6'2 senror and caught hrm, only to drscover he had trred so hard to escape that he had broken h.1s leg Our modem machrnery covers the space of mme qtuckly and as January and February approach we see cover why That was the year they were chosen as the off1c1al band of Krng Rex of the Mardl Gras rn New Or leans and qurte a few members of the class of 1957 made the tnp As we qulckly go through these records the school year draws to a close and we look back over our fresh man 3.Lt1V1t16S and see several outstandmg names Glenda Alexander, Chrrstmas Queen, Dave Eakrns, Petre Bryant and B111 Harralson, members of the football team, Dave Eakrns and B111 Harralson, members of the basketball team, Davrd Eakms, class presrdent, Petre Bryant, v1ce presrdent, B111 Harralson, secretary treasurer As green freshmen rt seems we, the class of '57 d1dn't accompllsh too much but when we retumed rn the fall of '54 thlngs began to change and Kammerlohr and I as h.1stor1ans note rt to be a change for the better Be1ng the last sophomore class to attend Barret I-hgh our hlstory makers wanted to be the best sophomores ever, and they excelled rn everythmg They were no1sy and qtuet They were good athletes and good students They were leaders and they were followers The norse came mostly from Anne Shaver Fay Wal lace, Trna Blackwell and Martha Sugg as they 1nsp1red the student body to cheer our teams on to vrctory The qluetness was also due to lugh school splnt ln the dead of the nrght frve boys, two of them sophomores, worked quletly and earnestly to frmsh a parnt Job at County Hrgh rn order to remmd the students there that we C1ty Slrckers were always on guard The records also show that there were qurte a few more boys on the athletrc teams than last year Ronme Mar shall B111 Ruff, Pete Bryant, Davrd Eakrns and B111 Har ralson all spent long hours on the grrd 1ron for the sake of dear old Barret Hrgh Dave Eakms and B111 Ruff work ed just as hard durrng basketball season to g1ve our school the great basketball team Barret had that year The boys proved they were members of a great team by wrnnrng thrrd place rn the state toumament and Dave Eakrns was made all state guard You don't have to be a hlstorran to prck out the bet ter students rn a class when you have the record nght before you Glenda Alexander, Barbara Hayes, Barbara McIntyre, Dorothy Phrllrps, Betsy Royster, Anne Shaver and Ann Tyson were the frrst members of the class of 1957 to jorn the Honor Socrety a club 1D whlch member class was allowed to Jom Next we take up the leaders and followers Of course you know that Dave Eakms, Bob Combleet and Grnny Herlbronner as class offrcers were leaders and we, the student body were followers It's September, 1955 By means of modern mecha msrns and rnventlons you have never returned to the year 1957 Krtchen and I as your hrstonans have a new beat It s rn a new 51,000,000 school, Henderson I-hgh We're strll wrrtmg about the same people however ur famous class of 1957 As all great and famous hrstorrans know, there 1S a trme of marvelous prosperrty for a people, and for the class of 1957 that trme of greatness came rn the years 1955 and '56, when they were Juniors That was the year everytlung happened and members of thrs class were rn just about all of the act1v1t1es rn whrch they could partrcrpate The cheerleaders were Anne Shaver, Fay Wallace, Bets Royster, Martha Sugg and Glenda Alexander Phy IS Marlowe was named Basketball Queen and Faye Wallace Snow Ball Queen Tommy Vogel became drum major of the band and Tommy, Barbara McIntyre, Jerry Sherrod and Glenda Lrles were members of Kentucky s a . . . .
