The Audubon Chapter of the National Honor So- ciety's purpose is to stimulate and encourage scho- larship, leadership and character in its members. The members are selected from 150fo of the senior class, 1Of70 of the junior class, 5010 of the sophomore class, and only from those who obtain at least a 2.4 scholastic average. This chapter is a service, as well as an honorary organization. One of its pro- jects for the year was to promote the sale of Christ- mas Seals among the school students. President ....... . . . Albert Pruitt The Student Council represents the entire studem body since it is composed of members elected by the various home rooms. Each home room chooses one representative and an alternate who must meet certain qualifications to be eligible. An elected faculty sponsor and the principal serve as advisors. The purposes served by the council are to act asa sounding board for ideas and proposals of the student body, to promote better understanding between fac- ulty and students, to promote extra-curricular activ- ities and to encourage school loyalty and spirit. This year among other activities the Student Council was instrumental in having the students, with suggestions from the public, select an official nick- name for the school's athletic teamsg it sponsored a 1 very successful Sadie Hawkins dance and is worliing il on a revision of the Henderson High School hand book. Q -41.- juw.-. -W The Future Teachers of America, formed in 1953 in Henderson, is a club solely designed for girls and boys planning to enter the field of education. Per- sonality, leadership, physical and mental vitality, and knowledge are factors considered for future teachers. The purpose of the FTA program is to interest high school students in the teaching profession and President. I I i . u u u i t I . Anne Shaver to give them experience in this field. Each boy and girl student I Hman' ' ' ' ' ' Llbby Mccollsm teaches and observes in the classes of his or her Advisor ............. Miss Mary Frances Fisher choice. Emphasis is placed not only on secondary but also on elementary education. The club is open to all high school students with a C average and above. There are forty mem- bers in the FTA Club this year.
