All-State Band. That year the class of '57 even had a famous driver among them. Bobby Combleet was named the best driver in Henderson County. The athletic events at Henderson High in 1955-56 were oumtanding. The winning of the conference championship and the beating of Owensboro in football, placing second in the state in basketball, seventh in track and among the top four in state baseball took up a big place in the records of this Class because so many of the boys participated in these events. There were twelve junior boys on the football team: Ronnie Marshall, Petie Bryant, Fred Gibson, Bill Ruff, Jimmy Hatley, Byron Hall, Herschell Cave, Bill Harral- son, Ronnie McClure, Harry Tate, Butch Abernathy and Charles Book. Jimmy Meadows and Bobby Pinson played first string water boys. The records also show Byron Hall, Petie Bryant, Bill Ruff, Dave Eakins and Bill Harralson on the basketball team. The headlines tell us that David was again Hen- derson High's all state guard. Of course we can't think of the basketball team without reminding you that for four years Bobby Combleet ruled the roost as manager with an iron hand. The outstanding of the year for our junior class hap- pened during the second semester: receiving of class rings, the junior-senior barbecue and the biggest dance ever sponsored by the class of '57, the Crowning. These were all highlights in our steps toward becoming seniors and there is one important reason for the success with which we accomplished all of them: Judy Barnett, Harry Tate and Bill Polk, our class officers. That crowning was so important that Kitchen and l found pictures in the files of four beautiful young ladies with four strong, handsome escorts, and another picture of one of the most beautiful dances ever witnessed. The oung ladies and entlemen in the first icture Y ' 8 P were candidates for the honor of being the kind and queen of Henderson High. They were: Judy Barnett, Bobby Cornbleet, Phyllis Marlowe, Harry Tate, Fay Wallace, Dave Eakins, Glenda Alexander and Bill Ruff. The sec- ond picture snows the King and Queen, Glenda Alexander and Bill Ruff, as they received their crowns and prepared to rule Henderson High for most of the remainder of their High School days. The dancers we saw in the picture were our junior waltzers. After giving a wonderful exhibition they left 6 the floor in perfect precision. Only one girl left before her time. Reason .... She lost her hoop. Now the time machine in which you are traveling moves swiftly toward its goal, May 24, 1957 when Hen- derson High's Class of 1957 graduates. It is now Septen ber l956 and Kammerlohr and l are starting through the last and most important record book of the four years because this year the people we are telling you about are seniors. QAt long lastj The first thing we noticed when we opened this book was a new name, Mr. Russell Below, who took over the reigns of Henderson High School as principal. Here are several names you will want to remember because they have played an important part in the his- tory of this class: Anne Shaver, Bill Ruff and Petie Bry ant, class officers, Glenda Alexander, football queen, Tommy Vogel, Glenda Liles, and Barbara Kammerlohr, All-State Band. Tommy was again named the band's drum major with Barbara Mclntyre, Glenda Liles, and Lenora Houtchen majorettes. Please note with due in- terest that all of these people were members of the ban named the second best concert group in the United States at the Cherry Blosom Festival in Washington, D. C. This year Henderson High's basketball team won the district tournament and advanced into the regionals. Y will be pleased to recall that two members of the class of '57, Dave Eakins and Byron Hall were named to the all-district and all-regional toumarnent teams- Now the time machine in which you have been traveling begins to come nearer its destination as we approach May 24. These past few weeks have been filled with Senior Skip Day, Junior-Senior Barbecue, the mailing of invitations and now class night. Note, good people, that the machine which you hav been traveling in is a special kind. It will go into the future as well as into the past. So just keep your seats as you view the night of May Z4 when at Commence- ment exercises these ll6 students are given their diplo- mas. Now that you have seen this, the trip is over and it is time for you to leave the ship.
