The first publication of the Handbook was for the year 1955-56. Members of Student Council are elected by students, to serve as their representatives in all matters of con- cern to the entire school. A repre- sentative and an alternate are elected from each home room early in the school year. The principal of the school and an elected faculty sponsor act in an advisory capacity to the council. This organization helps to build school spirit and school morale, de- velops leaders and intelligent follow- ers, teaches respect for law, order, and authority, provides an opportu- nity for students to become involved in the real problems of the school, it serves to develop in the students the state of mind which causes him to do the right thing because it is the right thing rather than because he is being watched. The purpose of this organization is to stimulate the scholarship, leader- ship, service, and character of the students in the school. To become a member a student must have a scho- lastic average of Z. 4 or better. Mem- bership is also limited in that onl 15070 ofthe number of seniors, l0'9i of the juniors, and 570 of the sopho- mores may become members.
