Students interested in the promotion of the Latin lan- guage, both past and present, are eligible for membership. The club strives to keep the spark of classical learning at Henderson High School alive. Emphasis is placed on the annual Latin Banquet held to enjoy the tradition of promot- ing slaves to masters and creating slaves from new members. Club In order to develop an appreciation for a foreign language, it is first manda- tory that an objective understanding of the people who speak the language be obtained. The Spanish Club of Henderson High School is dedicated to the task of present- ing to its members a realistic portrayal of the temperament and culture of the people of the Spanish-speaking world, a world on which the sun never sets. With this purpose as a firm foundation, the Spanish Club members engaged in various activities designed to create an atmos- phere of Spanish feeling among the par- ticipants. Such projects were the con- structing of afloat to represent the Span- ish Club in the Homecoming parade and the observance of Foreign Language Week. Projects which assumed a more civic nature were the collecting of food for an underprivileged family at Thanks- giving and the collecting of toys for the welfare children at Christmas. High- lighting the year, the Spanish students were most fortunate to have as their guests in the Spanish classes several Latin American natives for a brief span of time. Without a doubt, the Spanish Club is one of the most rapidly developing clubs of Henderson High School. For Thanksgiving andChristmas, the Spanish Club sponsored needy families so they could enjoy the holiday seasons, too. Mexicans demonstrate their native dances to give a Spanish party an authentic atmosphere. Mexican visitors are welcomed by the Spanish Club. The Spanish Club is represented in many activities including homecoming. 75
