Council The organized parking lots are the result of careful planning by Student Council members. The goal of the governing body at Henderson High School is to establish and maintain leader- ship, fellowship, and democracy among stu- dents. Each homeroom sends one boy and one girl representative to the Student Council. In turn, the representatives report to their home- rooms on the current affairs of the Student Coun- cil. The Student Council inaugurates projects which emphasize school spirit and participation in school-sponsored activities. These projects which are undertaken each year include the Homecoming Events, Sadie Hawkins Week, Mr. House contributes his opinion at Student Council meetings. The Student Council furnishes representatives to serve refreshments at ballgames. School Spirit Week, and Religious Emphasis Week. Also, committees are appointed from the council which are responsible for various activities of the school. Included among these are the Building and Grounds Committee and the Parking Lot Committee. The Student Council enables students to voice their opinions. They learn to disagree without being disagreeable. They learn to work cooperatively for the good of the student body. The faculty and students are grateful for this most important student organization. Dennis Tharrington speaks in assembly programs. 67

Honor Society Character, service, leadership, scholarship--the four basic requirements for induction into the National Honor Society. Students are chosen by the faculty on the basis of these four virtues. At the beginning of each second semes- ter, fifteen percent of the Senior Class, ten per cent of the Junior Class, and five per cent of the Sophomore Class are selected to become members of the John T. Alderman chap- ter of the National Honor Society. Induction into this club has become the goal of many students. As the name signi- fies, it is certainly an honor to be a member of the National Honor Society. Members must strive to maintain the re- quired overall ninety average and to continue their service to the school. The annual tapping ceremony has become a highlight of the activities at Henderson High School. All members are proud to be a part of this organization.
