Mrs. House ' s Spanish class In a communicative world, such as ours, it has become man- datory that languages be widespread, even in other parts of the world. Henderson High School has three foreign languages in- cluded in its curriculum. They include the recently added Spanish, along with Latin and French. Most students find these a great challenge, and very interesting. Math is also a subject of which at least a small portion is required of everyone. Freshmen take either General Math or Algebra I, then proceed to greater heights in the Math field. Competent teachers make this subject exceedingly interesting. Can you tell just how the history of the world will change, or how it has changed? Enabling the students to understand the government under which they live is the purpose of Civics and Problems of Democracy. World History and United States History teach the students world and U. S. operations. World History and United States History teach the studen t world and U. S. operations. Understanding people is one of the most complicated busi- nesses today. Psychology helps people to understand one another as they go from day to day. Science opens new avenues for all students at Henderson High School. Freshmen are introduced to science through a year of General Science. Biology is taken by the sophomores, and leaf projects are an annual event. Chemistry and physics are courses taken by juniors and seniors. The library is well equipped for all of the students ' needs. The wide variety of magazines and books provide the sources needed for research and term papers. The full-time librarian is ready to help students find needed materials. Seniors concentrate on ac- celerated English. Physical Education is enjoyed by Freshman girls.

Freshman boys study diligently in health class. Nedra Floyd and Martha Braswell enjoy office work. The English Department is well organized and offers a very interesting program. The Freshmen and Sophomores are studying a combination of American and English literature; while Juniors and Seniors concentrate on one facet of these subjects. Freshmen enjoy their Latin class.

Mr. House tacks up a reminder. All students are grateful for a school source such as this. Promoting good business positions are the Distributive Education classes. The students attend classes in the morning and work in their various positions in the afternoon. In class, a basic knowledge of buying, selling, advertising, merchandising, and stockkeeping is acquired. This knowledge is useful in their part-time jobs and prepares them for the future. Many Commercial courses are given to prepare students who plan to enter the field. Among the courses offered are Typing I and n. Accuracy and speed are the goals to achieve in this class. Shorthand interest people who plan to do secretarial work. While bookkeeping trains you for a particular phase of work. General Business helps to present a wide view of the business world. Freshman boys and girls are required to take this course. It promotes the physical fitness of each student. In the class- room, students learn first aid and how to care for the body in general. Time is also given in class to learn the operation and care of an automobile. These different facets of study help to keep the student mentally and physically alert. Hayden takes up absentee slips. Mrs. Glover checks papers. 13
