The melody of a beautiful song lingers on after the song has ended, and the melody of this school year, the things we have learned and the memories we hold dear, will linger on through all the years to come. This year will soon be a part of our past. We cannot hold on to it, for We look toward the future. The staff with the theme, The Song Has Ended. . . But the Melody Lingers On , has endeavored to capture the highlights of this year so that when we remember it, the sweet melody will still remainy 3 Dedication... To know Coach Stephenson is to love. honor, and respect him. His algebra students can remember how patient coach has been when they just could not Lmderstand an algebra problem. The boys on the football team will remember his tireless efforts and praise for a job well done. Many of us have taken our problems to coach and he has always been willing to listen to us and advise us. He has made the day seem brighter with his friendly smile and warm Hello . These arebut a few of the many reasons we have chosen to honor you, Coach. When we remember our high school days To Be Sure you will be in our fondest memories. .. .. . ae: E92 5-Q . :z1:5::2':::-Q. -. . -,xz. 'wa ' -1',i-'- K -w ' -1+--f-wma - . 1. These past four years hold a treasure of memories - - memories which can never be forgotten. The melodies still linger from - -the Land of Dreams, Homecomings, football games, basketball games, sock hops, fashion shows, School Spirit Weeks, and the mul- titude of conventions. Where has it all gone? This year has been such a busy one, Juniors, that you did not have time to notice how fast the year was slipping by. Early in the year youbegan making plans for the Jimior Senior and you were rewarded for your months of labor when the night finally arrived. You can feel proud for Mr. and Miss H.H.S. as well as many of our outstanding athletes are mem- bers of your class. This year holds many memories ,for each of you. But now, Juniors, It's Almost Tomorrow and tomorrow you will be seniors, the leaders, the oldest and wisest. l 1 5: Vw U Q. I , 7 HMBUS l Bus Drivers The bus drivers, with the aid of the North Carolina Highway Department of Safety, have had an excellent record of safety for the past twelve years. Each driver received his basic trainingufrom Mr. Al Howell, who teaches a class every fall in the Henderson High School Auditorium. The drivers promote safety on our highways and in our schools. Theyurge motor vehicle operators to drive slowly, watch for children crossing streets, and obey traffic signs and laws. J J V 3 5 . q . X . Not only did they excel in their athletic abilities, but they played each and every game according to the strictest standards of sportsmanship. In the years to come, we shall always remember the hard- fought games on muddy football fields, the last minute basket thatwon the game, the home-run in the ninth inning. But We shall also remember the fine people who participated in these sports, and remember that we were equally proud of them in Victory and Defeat. x - X .- 01 A X A .hw .., . 1 f 1 dv. 0 ,mn eq, -V .W ., Q. or env, M' M..,4nv4. Coach is a graduate of Angier High School, and Atlantic Christian College. We were extremely fortunate to have back with us this year our entire coaching staff of last year. Allthree of them have come to hold an important position not only in the school, but in the hearts of the stu- dents. Di re cto r of Athletics, Coach Emil S. Piestrak, returned for his sixth year. Although he was originally a Yankee, we feelthathe has become one of us since he graduated from East Carolina College with a Master's Degree in Physical Ed- ucation. Mr. Piestrak serves in the ca- pacity of head basketball and baseball coach and as assistant football coach. Coach Ted Rollins must have liked us, for he returned for his second year. He attended Selma High School and Wake Forest College, where he blazed a bril- liant football career. His duties, other than being the best looking male at H. H, S., include assistant football coach, and coach of thetennis, golf, and junior varsity bas- ketball teams. Amusing moments--Sadie Hawkins Week--the Student-Faculty Game. And Inspiring moments- - College Career Day- -Youth Week- -International Day. These, and so many more moments have combined to make this a most glorious year. And although we sadly realize that it is over, for the rest of our lives we shall have these Moments to Remember. We remember her for her cheerful and unselfish attitude toward her friends and teachers. Barbara possessed a brightness of spirit, and a wealth of kindness that will always be missed by those who knew her here. Had she remained with us, Barbara would have been a mem- ber of the graduating class. Congratulations Graduates of Henderson High School We've watched you grow from little tots to fine young men and women. And while you grew taller and wiser, we too were growing. This picture on this page is that of the P. H. Rose building, housing not only Hender- son's top variety and Junior Department Store but also the Home Office of the largest group of stores of its type in the Southeast. Your patronage has helped us grow. We hope we shall continue to merit your confi- dence in our ability to provide you with the best in merchandise at lowest prices.
