When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh. When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must-but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As everyone of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out. SUCCESS Often the goal is much nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man, Often the strusgler has given up When he might have captured the victor's cup, And he learned too late, when the night slipped down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. You never can tell how close you are, 36 It may be near when it seems so far. So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, It's when things seem bad that you must not quit. Al Hendrick, Class poet . ff.: . ,Rf .A QQ 1 A -H as . ' ' f Q lg? With energy unlimited, they play a maior role in life at Hender- son High. Entering school with big plans for a Junior-Senior, they undertook the selling of stationery, o Fashion show, and the Mr. and Miss H.H.S. contest to aid their financial problem. This class is well represented in school with individual honors, for they hold claim to the homecoming queen, secretary of the Junior Classical League, state Lieut. Comprised of officers and homeroom representatives, elected by popular vote, it has sponsored a program of varied activities this year. School Spirit and Religious Emphasis Weeks, Career Day, Sadie Hawkins Festivities, Homecoming, and the oper- ation of the school store were foremost on the Agenda. All the endeavors were successful in pro- moting good will among the students and in improving the school. The most outstanding feature of the year's work was the manner in which school morale was boosted, which resulted in a feeling of deep devotion to their Alma Mater on the part of the students. ALDERMAN CHAPTER Last year tor the first time in the history of our high school, a chapter ot the National Honor Society was established. The obiect of this chapter is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character. For these reasons, membership in the chapter is based on Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. The election of members to the chapter is carried out by a chapter council, consisting ot the principal and members of the faculty. At the end of this year a certain percentage of each class will be inducted into the chapter in an impressive ceremony. These students will remain on probation for one year and then become an active part of the society. The most important proiect planned tor this year to be carried out by our organization is informing the students ot Henderson High, particularly the Freshmen, of the society and its aims. Other proiects on our list includea chapel program based on College Lite, which is planned to inform students of the work awaiting them. The chapter also plans to sponsor o series ot nightly educational meetings featuring guest speakers. e 1 Kwai . .Mx . . uf M, . , 1 , . X ? , ' y ' . ' Q ,- , , ,-ff,' x ,.
