And proud as we may be of our class Tonight is only one of the tomorrows That through the years will pass . . . Our milestones will stand forever . . Marking the way for each of you . . . Standing for our highest endeavor . . . All tl'1at,s in us, brave and true . . . Oh what a loss the world would know Were we to fail it now So let our best ambitions grow Toward heights the future will allow. We have gained a clearer vision than before We seek to follow the path we've trod Pleading for justice first, yet evermore Loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. The graduates are going forth God bless them every one To run this hard and stubborn world just as it should be run But much I fear they'll find the facts Don't always track with dreams And running this old world is not As easy as it seems 5 .... fail . , tg VICTOR OwENs, Poe! 49 dass ffflffory The beginning of the end came for us on a bleak morning in September of 1952. On this momentous day. a large group of frightened downtrodden freshmen entered the cold forbidding halls of Henderson High School for the first time. Wie were met by friendly upperclassmen who assisted us courteously to our classes. You know something, though? I never did find that elevator, Realizing in our own feeble way that we needed some leaders, we elected Hartwell Bass, President, Olin Broadway, Vice-Presidentg Blary Alice YVeaver, Secretary-Treasurer. The sponsors were Bliss Hughes, Blr. Wilson, Bfrs. Nutt, Bliss Kilpatrick. and Bfrs. Hicks. The next autumn found us returning to school as sophomores. It also found us a great deal more enlightened on the subject of How to Treat Freshmen. lNhy shouldn't we be authorities on that subject- we remembered how mean the seniors had been to us. Wie got ready for a little studying and went to work. This year we elected Olin Broadway, President: Hal Knott, Vice-President: Shirley Aerey, Secretary-Treasurer. Our sponsors were Bliss Hughes. Biiss Stevenson, Blrs. Hicks. and Bliss Kilpatrick. And then almost before wc realized it we were juniors. As upper- classmen we were designated as big wheels, although the seniors were still a step ahead of us. That year we looked around and came up with a play called Gabriel Blow Your Horn. Wie had fun giving it and, l might add. the student body enjoyed it. ln addition to the play we had the pleasure, plus the grand job. of giving a junior- Senior. Our theme was BIoonlight and Roses and when the big night came we discovered that all our efforts had been well spent. This was the year that we got class rings and how we flashed them around. Our officers for our Junior year were Hutson XVester, Presi- dentg Hartwell Bass, Bviee-President: Bfary Alice lN'caver. Secretaryg and Bliriam Harris, Treasurer. Finally, in 1954, we began our last run as seniors. At first we found it rather odd to be the old soldiers of the school and to have no other class to look up to. Before long, however. we began to really enjoy ourselves. There is nothing quite like being a senior! Looking back we realized what a pathetic bunch we had been but we noted with pride that we had come through with flying colors. To lead us through our senior year we chose as oflicers Blary Alice Weaver, Presidentg Hutson YVester. Vice-President: Janet Hight, Secretary: and Gene Redding, Treasurer. The sponsors were Bliss Hughes. Bliss Xfilkin, and Mr. McRorie. All of them did a good job but special note should be given to Bliss Hughes who had stuck it out with us for four years. At last we come to the end of this little bit of literature. And as the ink runs out so does this year, our last one at H. H. S. The end of the road is in sight for us. The caterpillars shall shed their cocoons and emerge as beautiful butterflies. Let us hope that our wings will prove substantial enough to keep us from falling flat on our faces. XVe've been here a long time and we've enjoyed every minute of it. As spokesman for the class of '55, l can truly say that we'll miss Hender- son High School. PAT CARLTON. HI'.Yf0l'I'HIZ '50 dass Prophecy The time has come to once again sit before my crystal ball -I and look far into the future and see what the stars of the '55 class are doing. ' Speaking of stars-let's look into the radio. T. V.. movie .K field for a moment. First we see hlike Carter on Coketime in place of Eddie Fisher and Joe Farmer acting as Answer lNIan for S NBC. Of course thereis XN'alter Faulkner playing like Liberacc v and Leon Harris holding candles for him. Bobby Richardson 'A' has opened a new drive in movie called Black-Out Park and Becky Frazier sells tickets for him. Currently starring there is f5'f'i5551f ' .Iane'Rcnn in place of Doris Day and Sylvia Roberson for A Rosemary Clooney. lra Petty stars next week as Red Skelton. lvlarlenc Strange plays in Pee YVee King's orchestra, Lucie Parker is now a ballet dancer at Swan Opera House with Vic Owens orchestra providing the music under the name of Victorettes. Gerry Renn. Alma Renn. and Thelma Holmes replace the lNfIcGuire Sisters and Barbara Robinson is the new jane XVyman. Pat Carlton is trying to untie the Dragnot. VVC find Jasper Tharrington as manager of the Stork Club and he has Tommy Snow and Bennie Nlurphy acting as Dean hfartin and .Icrry Lewis in the floor show and also the new French actor Bobby Nethery. who is directed byllike King. These eggs are very small, she said as she stood in front of the egg case at the store. They are straight from the farm this morning, ma'am, said the grocer. . That's the trouble with these farmers, she said, they're so anxious to sell their eggs, they take them off the nest too soon. A bewildered young man appeared before King Solomon. I dontknow what to do, he moaned. I love a very beautiful girl, but she doesn't love meg and a very homely girl loves me, but don't love her. I want to get married, but can't forget the beautiful girl. What would you do if you were in my shoes? I'd get 'em shined, said the wise King. And in what State were you born, professor? asked a reporter interviewing a celebrity. Unless my recollection fails me, in a state of ignorance, was the answer. Yes, to be sure, commented the reporter while scribbling, and how long have you lived there? For a man who has no experience commented an employer to a job applicant ou cert ' 1 k , , y amy as a nigh salary. Well, he was told, the work is so much harder when you don't know anything about it. A little boy had been to Sunday school for the first time, and when asked what they did there, he said, Everybody stood u and san . P E What did they sing? I don't know what the rest of them sang, but I sang, 'Casey Jones', he replied. You are 20 minutes late again, growled the boss. Don't you know what time we start to work in this ofhce? No sir, said the new employee, l'they're always at it when I get here. :'Well, Johnny, how did you make out in school today? Fine, but that teacher is always asking silly questions. Today she asked us where we were born, Well, you certainly knew the answer to that one-General Hospital. I didn't want to be a sissy, so I said Yankee Stadium. A young mother had taken her small son to visit the new home of a friend. As they entered the living room filled with beautiful fragile objects artistically arranged in every available spot, the little boy exclaimed: Oh, mother! Look at all the pretty no-no's. Why are you late? asked the student. Class started before I got here, anwered his friend. Ever since Hallowe'en, Mrs. Owl has been worried about her baby. Lately, he doesn't seem to give a hoot about anything. To take good care of our Seniors grand, Gerry and Shirley took a hand. Wlhen someone mentioned pictures for our book, Everybody turned to give Anne a look. Then started the scramble to collect our ads, Billy and Barton drove the advertisers mad. To get the section of sports and games, Was Joe, Gene and Mickeyjs objective aim. And doing their job, needing no correction. Pat and Florence did the feature section. We had to have someone to look after the money In doing this job, Mary was a honey. Suzy helped work out the business deals. We sure know how tired this little girl feels. To Miss Riddle, our sponsor this year, We sure did need your pep-talks so clear.
