Education, athletics, and diversions find their places in the annualg dull moments as well as bright ones. THE BULLDOG, in high school annual form, has been printed this year for the first time in over a decade. We realize that many improve- ments can be made and hope that you Will file through these pages understandingly. May we suggest that next year's BULLDOG staff be aided by our mistakes that have been unknowingly made. We hope that you will accept this annual with the best Wishes of the Staff. ,X 'X DEDICATION O The present Senior Class holds a distinction unparalleled in the history of Henderson High School, that of being the first class to graduate under the twelve year program. For their spirit and determination to seek a more complete high school education, afforded by their state and community, We dedicate THE 1945 BULLDOG to THE SENIOR CLASS Page Three . ROSA MAC COGHILL Treasurer .................... MARTHA EVANS Sponsor .......... MONTEIN C. MCKAUGHAN The Class of '45 entered Henderson High School in 1940 as a green lot, as green as any, according to the upperclassmen. We soon found our way around and settled ourselves to a glorious high school life. Nothing much happened except vacation. Our steering committee that first year included President Morton Miles, Vice-President Mary Ann Johnson, Secretary Crenshaw Thompson. On entering the portals of our dear Alma Mater in the fall of '41, we learned that we would be the first class to graduate under the 12-grade system. Hard work was soon overshadowed by the joys shared our second year. We were 124 strong, determined to advance academically and to become an integral part of high school life. Our class officers remained the same this year. Under the leadership of President Steve Flannagan, Vice-President Ollie Vaughan, and Secretary Della Dixon our third year found manyiof our boys taking places in industry and the armed services. We presented our first class play, For Pete's Sake, to a well-responding audience. At Club '43 we were host in the time-honored Junior- Senior Banquet. Our class dwindled to 92 members in our fourth year. Our officers were Billy Floyd, President, Mel Finch, Vice-President, Della Dixon, Secretaryg Roy Moore, Treasurer. During the year we sent representatives to the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, presented The Miser for the class play winning the award of the year, were enter- tained at a May Frolic, and planned to return again as full-fledged Seniors. The time has now come for our 34 members to enjoy our last year to the fullest. We attended the inauguration of Governor Cherry. Our class play, I Want a Nurse, was presented on March 23 by an all-girl cast. The Juniors feted us as we were ready to embark on our trip to college, work, or the armed forces. Reluctantly, we take our leave from our beloved Henderson High School and the happy days of play and study we spent there. Always in our hearts there will be a warm spot for the campus where we have been privileged to receive our high school education. . BILLY MITCHELL, Historian. Thus far, the Junior Science Club has shown a steady increase in membership and is making its bid to become one of the most popular clubs for the underclassmen. There are many' who have generously given their assistance, and to them we extend thanks and grateful acknowledgment. To Mr. Robert B. Harrison, of our faculty, we extend thanks for his advice and for the time he has given in prepar- ing the manuscript copy. Without his help, we could not have produced this book. He has contributed his experience and his fine ability innumerous ways. To Mr. Landrum, of the Oxford Orphanage print shop, we are also very grateful for advice in the mechanical assembling of the copy and general layout of the forms. He has demon- strated much of the printing art in offering his suggestions and services. Mr. Leon Joyner, of the Goodrich Studio, made our photo- graphs in the customary excellent manner which has built the Goodrich reputation over a period of years, and for his services we are grateful. We also wish to thank Mrs. T. B. Rose, Jr., for her interest in our Annual and her assistance to the business staff in sell- ing advertising space. Last, but by no means least, We are under obligation to Mr. S. M. Crowder, our principal, who has offered many sug- gestions. He has shown unusual interest in our work. To all our advertisers We would extend our sincere ap- preciation for their generous support by taking space in the Annual, and thus made it possible from the standpoint of finances. They have always responded to our appeals gra- ciously. THE STAFF. Page Fifty eight 4 4 Aclveriisemc-mis r + . - 9 I - - fv v-v v-v vAv v-v -'ffvww vw ff 1 P g Ffty 4 4.-W ..
