We came to you with minds quite bare, We caused our teachers lots of worry and care. But we take with us knowledge we hold dearg And we hope in the line of fame our name you will hear. So with hearts full of love and a good- bye to all, From Porter to Payne our professor so tall, We hope that you will miss us toog Bon Jour Adios and Adieu. Euliis PEGRAM. Nor- mally, she said with heiubrightest smile, this honor would fall to our president, who has never missed hear- ing any of our speakers, But to- day she is in Atlantic City, and how we all envy her. Each year it is a question of wide discussion of who will lie the valedic- torian and who will lie the salutator- ian. In the class of '-12, it was not an- nounced that it was between Ernest- ine Smith and Thomas Faulkner un- til about two weeks before examina- tions. Mr. Payne :lid not announce tliat morning which oftliealiove stu- dents received the highest average, but asked that both of them meet him in his office. There,Mr,Paync allowed the two students to check their grades and watch him average the fateful figures, The result showed why Mr. Payne had refrained from announc- ing the results that morning in the auditorium. Thomas Faulkner had an average of 90.719 and Ernestine Smith had an average of 90115. The valedictorian was then announced as Thwmas Faulkner and the salutator- ian as Ernestine Smith. Woman begins by resisting a man's advances and ends by blocking his retreat. I'm living so far beyond my income that we may almost lie said to be liv- ing apart.-Rf'urIrr's Digrst.
