After he had completed his service at the Academy, Blount continued to make great progress, until he receiyed the appointment of Secretary of the Navy, during the administra- tion of Miss Nannie A. Crowder, the first woman president of the 'United States. FANNIE POVVELl,fln her form was horn the spirit of a new literature, and the poets of the globe bowed in appreciation of her gifted art. As Fannie Crosby paved her way to Fame through her religious hymns, so did Fannie Powell, with her life-giving poetry. Her outstanding poem is entitled, lf Money XVere Sorrow, l'd be the Happiest Girl Alive. HQXVARD UPTON-Henderson High athletics had many successful sea- sons under the leadership of Lefty. who was appointed coach and also as- sistant instructor of Intelligence Tests. His wife, Miss Sarah lflall, did, at last, conform to long skirts and acted as principal of the school, as long as the tasks were simple, hut when their duties grew more laborious, they gave up their Work and retired to Oxford, where they now reside with Mrs. Upton's father. MILDRED MURRELL-From the four corners of the Earth, men marveled at her exquisite grace and ease at the piano.
