The building of character of American Youth, as we know it, would be quite difficult without wholesome activities like football. Theodore Roosevelt said, In life, as in a football game, the principle to follow is: Hit the line hard, donit foul and don't shirlc, but hit the line hard. It is comforting to find in our youth today lasting concepts of that - Our Amer- ican way of life. REFEREES I I I ADMINISTRATION KICK on? Club Latin Club HISTORY OF SENIOR CLASS 1949 On September 3, 1937 at 8:30 o'clock, school bells rang for the first time for the 1949 Seniors. For some, it was Montgomery Elementary, while Central Elementary proudly claimed the others. Early school days were spent in making new friends, getting acquainted with teachers, and be-- coming accustomed to an entirely new and different' life. Later grammar grades br ought the band, the Camp Fire Girls, and other organized clubs, which occupied much time. It was in the sixth grade tha t all of the clas s met and began studies together in Henderson Junior High. Some of the students had moved to other towns, but there were also many new faces seen in the halls. While in Junior High, the boys started participating in athletics, such as football, basketball, and track. The girls were also keptbusy with thePep Squad, Choral Club, and sports of their own. Maybe it was because of their excellent beginning that in 1945 the Junior High Cubs won district in football, Junior High was a whirl of events and soon it w a s time to enter Henderson High as lowly fish , Those first two years will always be remembered. Initiation Day, electing a pep leader, publishing the Hi-Life, belonging to the Latin Club, and learning to cook in Home Economics were all important events of early high school days. With the Junior year came the Junior Carnival, along with giving the prom for the Seniors, then having a member of the class crowned queen of the Lions' Den. Then at last, the happiest year of high s chool as dignified Seniors. Attending the wonderful banquets and parties, giving the senior play, the band getting to play in the Cotton Bowl, electing a football sponsor for the class, and the Henderson Lions winning third in district were just a few of the many outstanding events of that year. Then graduation, the happiest, saddestday of all, when from the halls of a never-to-be-forgotten H.H.S. passed another class, the Seniors of '49, SENIOR PLAY Skidding Each spring the Senior Class produces a play. This year a three-act comedy portraying the life of the Andrew Hardy family was presented. CAST Aunt Miuy . . Andy...... Mrs. Hardy . . . . . . Ruth , , , Sarah Hornbeck . . .
