SENIOR SPONSORS Mrs. Kouts Mr. Williams Mrs. Crawford Mrs. Thomas Mrs. Drury QL 54 -P sv, 5 ..A. Claaa 'l-liatonq In a few short months, we, the senior class, shall experience the rush of last minute themes to be handed in and chemistry tests to be crammed for. We shall know the excitement of the senior dinner dance, the silent awe-inspiring moment which follows the benediction at the baccalaureate sermon, the triumphant notes of the recessional march at commencement exer- cises. Vve shall be graduates of Henderson County High School. These past four years have been wonderful years, so perhaps we shall be pardoned if we reminisce briefly now. When we entered these halls that first September morning four years ago, we knew little of what was ahead of us. As time went on, we were willing to tackle the piles of homework, algebra problems, health tests, and transitive verbs, but we were even more willing to have fun That year some people even called us green freshmen . Our leaders for the newly-formed class--the second freshman class to enter County High -- were elected. Nancy Williams was chosen president, Jim Long, vice-president, and Buddy Utley, secretary and treasurer. an t That year several of our class members were outstanding in the sports field. Trying out for their first gridiron encounter were Duncan, Norman, Utley, Sellers, Crafton, Chaney, McKinley, Ball, Owens, Caudill, Nally, R. Bugg, and W. Bugg. We were happy that Nancy Williams was chosen basketball queen that very first year. During our freshman year, Glenda Tooley and James Mclntyre, students in Mrs. Barnes's English class, were essay winners. Glenda won What Thanksgiving Means to Me on the national level. James was fourth in the state in the fire prevention contest. Off to a good start in our sophomore year, we elected Jim Long, president, Kenny Hazel- wood, vice-president, and Nancy Williams, secretary and treasurer. Nancy Williams, Jean Thomas, and Kaye Sparks were our J. V. yell leaders for football and basketball games. ln the basketball royalty, Nancy Vlilliams represented our class as attendant. Later she was crowned F. F. A. sweetheart at the annual Father and Son banquet. N-X lf the fun was to be greater in ourvlfunior year, so was the work. Our officers were David EQ' Nicholso , Jane Bennett, and Nancy illiams. This year was crowded with activities, .ss ff' PM Claaa Hiatonq which included fund-raising campaigns, dances, octopus dolls, lWho made that octopus with the legs?D, coke concessions, and the Springer specialty , cotton candy. Our first class-sponsored social event was the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Traditionally, this was a girl-chase-boy affair. Many of our class members were history makers that year. Beverly Risley, Kaye Sparks, and Nancy Williams marched on as varsity cheerleaders. Frank Ligon was honored with The Most Valuable Football Player football award. Again we had an outstanding student in the essay field. Jane Bennett won two essays: Soil Conservation and Employment of the Handicapped. Brenda Briscoe, Nancy Williams, and Gloria Lee Phelps earned the coveted state Future Home- makers of America degrees. Our dream has finally come true! We are seniors at last! Ira Bryant, Buddy Utley, Jane Bennett, and Beverly Risley were elected to the offices of president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, respectively. Nancy Williams and Jim Long were elected queen and king of The Countiana. nine it tt 'tlizzizlii , sr f Q QZJESGA. , J V .1 , 56 The following people sang in the All-State Chorus, Judy Farley, Terrill Littrell, Roger Augustus, Alton Floyd, Pat Crafton, and Ronnie Kloke. During our four years in high school, several of our boys have been lettermen in sports. ln there pitching in baseball, were Norman, Long, and W. Bugg. In the round ball league were Duncan, Norman, Long, Hazelwood, and Ligon. ln football, Utley, Long, Mclntyre, Lig Hazelwood, and Caudill were solid contenders. Sellers, Ligon, and Norman lettered in track. The history of the class of '59 would not be complete without a word of appreciation to our faculty and parents, whose loyalty and service have been an inspiration to us. Even though names of all class members have not been mentioned here, the history of the class of '59 is the history of each member. 5 Soon graduation will become the threshold to the future, the bright years, the golden years will become a treasured memory. on, -its 'fggt .
