Text from Pages 1 - 56 of the 1982 volume:

CHERISH THIS I) Y Today we will part and go our own ways Always to remember those high school (lavs. Those days will he gone, they II never return The days of hall games and lessons to learn. Some will laugh and some will ery Some will succeed, but some must die. We’ll never meet as one again We’ll never be the same, my friend. Hut cherish this day and do not weep For each memory we’ll always keep. Life will go on and we’ll start anew We’ll have old friends and find new ones too. So look to the future with hope and pride For soon we must challenge the world outside! Vernetta Jean Holstein Henderson Central School Henderson, New York IN MEMORIAM Lovely, Smiling Lady Behind an office desk. Who your life affected One can only guess. But as you walked with us For such a short today, Look at how you touched us With your quiet, gentle ways. A thoughtful deed, a gentle word. A bad boy? A naughty girl? Nothing in your eyes ever showed All we got was an encouraging word. Many make the trip through life Leaving their talents hidden deep But yours shine brightly through To make life more sweet. We will long remember Your loving, kindly ways. And our lives will be fuller Because you walk with such grace. Now Laughing, Loving Lady As you rest in God’s Garden ol Life lie now has a lovely new flower To grace his garden on high. But, Otella, the life you lived Touched so many lives with good And we will ever thank God That he touched our lives with yours. Left to right: Karen Montague, Pat Burdick, Shirley VanBenschoten DEDICA TION It is a pleasure for the 1981-1982 Yearbook Staff to dedicate our 20th volume Hilltop Highlights to a person who has put forth so much of his time and effort to the H.C.S. School. He has not only helped us in class, but also in sports. When we needed a coach he was there to help us out, reaching out to people to let them know he was there. Letting us know that he really does care. At times praising people for the work they have done and criticizing them when they needed it. He has some special characteristics about him that make him No. I. He has helped our school through roller-skating, swimming, and many other outside school activities. At times, we are sure he has said to himself, “Is this all worth it?” It must have been since he has stayed here and watched us grow. So what can we all say but, “Thanks a lot for being our teacher and helper throughout the years.” CLASS HISTORY In September of 1969 we entered Kindergarten with Mrs. Hess. Of our original sixteen Lori Babcoitk, Cindy Lane, Brenda Taylor, Lori Shepard, Jeff Fargo, Rick Van , and Austin Villeneuve remain. This is the year we were taught to count to one hundred and we learned to sav our A B C’s. w We moved to first grade with Mrs. Stevens. She taught us to count higher and to add numbers. Mrs. Fishel was our teacher in second grade. This was the year Steve M. came and Colleen left us for a month while she went to Washington. Miss Hough had a lot to handle in 3rd grade between Robin Fulkerson, Liz Spinanci, and Colleen, they all competed for Miss Hough’s attention. Mrs. Naughton taught us our verbs, nouns, and how important homework is in 4th grade. Gerald Fletcher entered this year. As every class experiences, we learned to keep our mouths shut in 5th grade or else our hands got very sore from writing “Blabber Mouth.’? Mr. Carolyn was our teacher in 6th grade. Chris Cook entered this year and she had a hard time being accepted. Kristen showed her friendship by jumping off the teeter- totter, which resulted in Chris wetting her pants. The good times consisted of Gerald, Jeff, and Rick known as the Tiggcrs, and the fights with Mr. Carolyn and Lori S. also for the way he used to sit on his desk. In 7th grade and 8th Mr. Gravino was our class advisor. We began the hard struggle of earning money for our Senior Trip. We managed to go through three Science teachers in those years. 9th grade started with Mr. Widrick as our advisor. We all agree that the thing we all remember in 9th grade was our algebra class. We would click our pencils at certain times, drop our books at certain times and better ver we’d shoot paper wads at him. One day we got very brave and patriotic and sang the National Anthem. It was going great until Mr. robbins walked by and saw us all. 10th and I I th grades were times of great fun and hard work. We started having dances, pizza sales, doughnuts, maramel corn, pretzels, and candy bars. We started a new class tradition of Junior Skip Day. We rode blind horses, climbed silos and went for nature walks. We’ve made it. We started off the year with a terrific canoe trip. Jeff, Steve M., Steve F., Lori B., Brenda, Mr. Widrick, and Mr. Mundt took part in this very cold and wet trip. We reached the height of our social life this year. Not a week-end went by that there wasn’t a party somewhere, Moby’s, Colleen’s. Kristen’s, Penny Roas, Gillman Hill, and cabins. We were active with the play. Senior Trip to Washington, selling candy bars, I om Watt. 1 urkey Drawing, Band Dance, Moves, and Basketball games. We grew a lot this year, we were very close and almost like a second family. Keeping that in mind you can understand why we make our last year together our best. We’d just like to thank everyone who made our good times better. Special feelings of gratitude and love are sent to our parents for all the support, patience, understanding, guidance and love they have shown us through all our years at H.C.S.
