HILLTOP HIGHLIGHTS Volume XVIII - 1980 Dedication DOLORES H. POPE It is with pleasure that the 1980 Yearbook Staff dedicates the eighteenth volume of Hilltop Highlights to a person who has served as teacher, counselor, and friend to HCS students over the past 18 years. Many students have learned not only about homemaking and health in her classes but also have explored their own and other's values under her guidance. The Class of 1980 greatly appreciates her interest and the time she has devoted to their activities as their advisor. We say thank you to Dolores H. Pope. Class History In September of 1967 we entered Kindergarten with Mrs. Hess as our teacher. Of the original twenty-three, Fred, Lome, Carson, Donald, Jennifer, and Jim remain. In our first year we managed to dent Mrs. Hess' desk with a scooter, pull the fire alarm in the hall, and cut Carson's head on the side of the piano after Jennifer had chased him to try to retrieve her purse. We moved on to Miss Steven's class where she remembers us to have been gems . It is here that Michael came into the class. Having learned to read our first books, we advanced to second grade. Here we were introduced to the musical arts by Mrs. Fishel's violin playing and Dawn became one of us. In third grade we were intro- duced to the judical system through Miss Hough's court trials. Sally, Cindy, Scarlett and Amy were the next additions as we entered Mrs. Heath's fourth grade, where a notorious party for Eldonna Shepard was interrupted by Dr. Kelly, our new principal. Lori joined us as we became fifth graders and we got in hot water again as we tried to hold a surprise birthday party for Mr. Wyand. In the sixth grade we inflicted many of our growing pains on Mr. Shepard. As we entered the seventh grade, Coach Wheeler soon taught us the meaning of respect . Mrs. Pope became our advisor that year and has remained with us since. In eighth grade, Louis joined us and we became prepared for high school. In ninth grade Mr. Robbins, our new principal, accompanied us on our trip to Alba- ny and Howe's Caverns when we had to get out and walk because we were too heavy for the bus. In tenth grade we sponsored our first dance and labored through two paper drives. In eleventh grade we held two band dances and managed to get more water on us than on the cars at our two car washes. Have you ever washed a Peterbuilt? At last we became seniors and set our sights on Florida. Through diligent work in our magazine sales and Tom Wat, we came closer to our goal. Akiko joined us this year as an exchange student from Japan. We thank all those who have contributed their time and efforts to our class to make the past thirteen years enjoyable. y 'i.
