The Fall of “56” seems like a long time ago, with Mrs. Hess helping eight of the seniors on and off with overshoes and coats. At this time Bernadine, Linda, Bill, Gary, Gordon, Jim, Mark and Rod all got together and decided to form the Class of “69.” After learning how to cut and color paper, we moved to first grade where Miss Stevens attempted to teach us some basic reading and arithmetic. We surely missed our naps. Having conquered two grades, we thought Mrs. Vorce would be no problem at all. Apparently she knew what was coming and put her foot down the first day. We had a successful May day program and presented the “Wizard of Oz” that year. Third grade was really new; we watched educational programs and learned a lot of math and spelling. The next year, with Mrs. Heath, we gained a new member, Gaye, from Florida. We stormed the town with packets of seeds and our parents grew big gardens that year. Mr. Hyde proved to us that long division and multiplication aren’t as easy as they look. In sixth grade we got to break in a new teacher, Mr. Walker. Must be we were too hard on him because he left school before we did. Jumping upstairs to Mrs. Shearer’s and Mrs. Steven’s guidance, we picked up Caryn, Melody, Hazel and Rick. None of us will ever forget Mrs. Shearer’s influencing talks. In ninth grade Gary C. moved in to help us with our fudge and cookie sales. Cindy transferred here in April of that year from General Brown. During our tenth year we had a couple of successful paper drives and a dance. Hazel tried to play “Super- man but Mr. Guga had other ideas. Who of us could forget the Junior Prom and Becky, the last of our group, with her diligent supervision. The gym didn’t smell like dead fish, did it? Now in our last great year, we await our trip and last of all graduation activities. We wish to thank everyone who helped us through our thirteen years at H.C.S. 12 The Class of 1969
