Vv ! . HILLTOP HIGH- LIGHTS HENDERSON CENTRAL SCHOOL HENDERSON, NEW YORK FOREWORD As in past years members of the student body got togeth- er and devoted their energies to putting together this, our 1969 yearbook. In this production are stored memories of friends, exciting games, stimulating classes and much fun. Pictured also are the many new faces who have joined us here. Especially interested in this edition are the seniors who, leaving the relatively carefree atmosphere of high school, will keep this yearbook as a reminder of past ex- periences. We, the staff, hope that you, the reader, will also remem- ber and enjoy the memories held within. 3 TABLE OF CONTENTS Page 11 Page 19 Page 27 Page 33 SENIORS CLASSES ACTIVITIES SPORTS 2 Marion C. Stevens DEDICATION Daily we gathered in your orchard. For you were the gardener t f our minds. With a quick eye for the insect and blight. And a strong tie-stake for the insecure. Encouragement was the warm sun on our heads. Confidence and firmness were the roots we needed. Concern was the rain that opened the flowers of ourselves. You gave us words like crystal dewdrops. And ideas like polished apples in a silver bowl. You gave us the golden key. Gratefully dedicated by the 1969 Yearbook Staff 4 IRONT ROW: L. Lane, M. Scott, Editor; R. Sturtz, Business Manager; G. YEARBOOK STAFF To the Yearbook Staff goes the responsibility of putting together a publication which will be representative of school life. Since we will have no chance to correct our mistakes once they are in print, we have to make as few as possible before we send the copy to the publisher. Thus, through all the cutting, typing, and shaping, we have attempted to portray as accurately as possible, through pictures and words, Hen- derson Central School. 5 The Staff BOARD OF EDUCATION Merrill Scott. At this time Bernadine, Linda, Bill, Gary, Gordon, Jim, Mark and Rod all got together and decided to form the Class of “69.” After learning how to cut and color paper, we moved to first grade where Miss Stevens attempted to teach us some basic reading and arithmetic. We surely missed our naps. Having conquered two grades, we thought Mrs. Vorce would be no problem at all. Apparently she knew what was coming and put her foot down the first day. We had a successful May day program and presented the “Wizard of Oz” that year. Third grade was really new; we watched educational programs and learned a lot of math and spelling. The next year, with Mrs. Heath, we gained a new member, Gaye, from Florida. We stormed the town with packets of seeds and our parents grew big gardens that year. Mr. Hyde proved to us that long division and multiplication aren’t as easy as they look. In sixth grade we got to break in a new teacher, Mr. Walker. Must be we were too hard on him because he left school before we did. Jumping upstairs to Mrs. Shearer’s and Mrs. Steven’s guidance, we picked up Caryn, Melody, Hazel and Rick. None of us will ever forget Mrs. Shearer’s influencing talks. In ninth grade Gary C. moved in to help us with our fudge and cookie sales. Cindy transferred here in April of that year from General Brown. During our tenth year we had a couple of successful paper drives and a dance. Hazel tried to play “Super- man but Mr. Guga had other ideas. Who of us could forget the Junior Prom and Becky, the last of our group, with her diligent supervision. The gym didn’t smell like dead fish, did it? Now in our last great year, we await our trip and last of all graduation activities. We wish to thank everyone who helped us through our thirteen years at H.C.S. 12 The Class of 1969 GARY CORNELL Major: Industrial Arts: Class President 2,3; Student C ouncil Treasurer 4; Soccer 1,2,3,4; Basketball 2,4. Under the capable guidance of Mrs. Smith we launched the year by doubling the amount of time spent in mixed chorus. Now it was every Monday and Wednesday eighth period, and we soon learned there could be fun singing even though we had to work hard. Our first public appearance was at the PTA Christmas concert when we sang The Exodus Song, Do Lord. O Bone Jesu, Talk to the Animals and Christmas Day. Mrs. Merrill Scott served as accompanist, and we appreciated her talented skill on the piano. Shortly after the first of the year Mrs. Juanita Stuckey took over as vocal music teacher and we are enjoying her leadership. Looking back, we've come a long way, musically speaking, since last September, but we have enjoyed every minute of it. Soon it will be spring festival and concert time, and our group will be on hand to promote the cause of harmony whenever and wherever we can. I RON I ROW: R. I leury, Vice-President; R.
