CLASS HISTORY In September of 1954, Mrs. Hess, Kindergarten teacher, was greeted at the door by twelve smiling faces. Out of the original twelve, five still remain: Elsa, Jackie, Karen, Nelson, and Steve. After learning things like reading readiness, tying our shoes and being quiet at nap time, we passed to first grade. Miss Stevens was patient in teaching us our arithmetic; also in this grade we gained Mary Vroman. Then we passed to second grade and Mrs. Vorce where we acquired another member of our present class, Matthew Fleury. How can we ever forget our May Day program when Matthew placed the crown on Elsa's head and it fell down over her eyes! Third grade was an unusual year because our class got to listen in on the fourth grade lessons. This happened because Mrs. Heath was responsible for teaching both grades. Our fourth grade year was spent in the same room and under the same teacher, Mrs. Heath. Our fifth grade year was an eventful one because we were the first class at H. C. S. to have Mr. Hyde. We will all remember our sledding party and all the projects we undertook, such as the square dance exhibit for Mr. Spencer, the music teacher. Next came sixth grade and Mrs. Montague. Here two members of the present class were added: Lynn Vorce, and Gary Richardson. We will long remember Mrs. Montague's surprise birthday party and the Koolaid that was spilled all over the floor. Then seventh grade, the big year that we went upstairs to find a new and different system of classes, will be remembered by all of us. We met many new teachers and became completely confused by the constant movement from room to room. Here, too, we added members to our present class: Sandra Ramsdell, Jack Benjamin, David Vorce, and Larry Englert. Eighth grade was not an eventful year as far as doing anything special, but we all looked forward to becom- ing Freshmen. Our Freshman year was dotted with fudge and cookie sales under the capable guidance of Mrs. Whitehead. Here two members of our present class were added: Gary Smith and John Gilligan. Our Sophomore year was one of bustling activity. Two paper drives and a dance featuring the Statics were held. Miss Quackenbush, our present class advisor, joined us here. Our Junior year was also packed full of activities such as a stationery sale, several dances and the prom. We will all remember our prom, Evening in Paris, and the fun we had gathering all kinds of decorations from nu- nerous places. Margaret MacCall and Marilyn Billings joined our class here. Our Senior year has been marked with an even bigger excitement of activity from our car washes, our play, magazine sale, the donkey basketball game, to our dances and our senior trip. All of these have filled our senior year at H. C. S. with much joy. As graduation approaches, we will all look back and remember the good times (and some bad times) packed into thirteen short years of our lives. The 1967 12
