CLASS HISTORY On a bright September morning in 1953 a new world opened up for 17 youngsters. This was the first step up the ladder which we were going to climb in the next thirteen years. On our arrival to school we found Miss Mayhew to be our teacher. Even though we had a hard time learning how to tie our shoes and be quiet during rest period we advanced into first grade. Miss Stevens was our teacher now. We acquired Jan Moore, who moved from Watertown. After receiving our first readers and deciphering the difference between the words cat and dog, we went into Mrs. Vorce's room. Art Yerden then joined us. This year everyone was busy learning how to play all the instruments for the May Day Program, in which Jean Ramsdell was the queen. In third grade we moved upstairs and into the hands of Mrs. Mereand. We found this to be quite an ex- perience, but always we were being bumped into by the bigger kids. During our stay upstairs we engaged ourselves in many contests and spelling bees. In fourth grade we found ourselves downstairs again. I'm sure everyone will remember our multiplication tables and Mrs. Heath. Back upstairs we went again to fifth grade and surprised Mrs. Moreand. Vicky Briggs now joined us. For sixth grade it was back downstairs again, much to everyone's disapointment, to make Mrs. Montague's year complete. Our activities that year consisted of making parts of speech booklets and eating graham crackers with our afternoon milk break. At last! We're upstairs to stay. We now descended upon Mrs. Stevens for two wonderful years. Pat Greer and Fern Edwards joined us here. After getting our first schedules of classes, everyone had a peculiar habit of going to the wrong room, the wrong class, or not eating lunch during the right shift. But after a while we became accustomed to the routine. The years arrives that everyone has been waiting for. We now become the class of '66 and Mrs. Shearer's favorite grorp. As Freshmen we had many a fudge and cookie sale to start our earnings for the Senior trip. Isn't it funny how Bob Henchen decided to join our class? As we progress to Sophomores we have our paper drives. Thanks to Bob Kurtz and Jerry Whitney we had to retie all the papers. Not to miss out on Coach Wheeler's W. W. II stories, Gummy LaRock and Paul Babcock join us. We also had a WNDR hop which, after one postponement, was a great success. C ur Junior year was very eventful. We had the usual dances and, of course, as juniors, ordered our class rings. We all could hardly wait their arrival. Then, on a blustery February evening we had to cancel our long awaited Donkey Basketball game. But none the less when finally put on, it turned out to be the event of the year. Then came the prom, Dutch Polenaize. Oh, That stone wall! Foot after foot of stone wall! Our prom was no great financial success, but it was a lot of fun arguing over what color crepe paper to use and where to put the windmill so it wouldn't hit anything. The last step of the ladder has been taken. Our final year at good 'ole H. C.S. is upon us. To start the year off right we find ourselves in the hands of a new class advisor, wonderful Mr. Kelley. The first event as Seniors was the senior play, Mumbo Jumbo. What a riot! Thanks to Mr. Armstrong's good directing and Bob Henchen's wonderful ad-libing. We are now anxiously awaiting Easter Vacation and the Senior trip. Thanks are given to all those people who helped make these last thirteen years unforgettable. 20
