Studying history gives us a better understanding of the present be- cause the present has grown out of, and is a result of, the past. lt also has great dramatic value and inculcates ideals, for it tells us of the lives and work of pio- neers in areas ranging from edu- cation to government, all of which make up our complex way of life.
