J. tx'lct.aiightin, C. H, Tunnictilafe Jones. S the elected representatives of the taxpayers of our school ctistriet, the Board of Education is the Hnat governing authority of our school system. The peopte of Hempstead have exercised prudence in selecting, as the memhers of their Board of Education, a group of capahle husiness men to guide the policies and to controt the Financial affairs of their school system. Themselves taxpayers, these men give tiheratty of their time and effort in orcter that our school system may he governed in the most eiiicient manner possible and at the same time avoiding unreasonahte expenctiture of the puhhc money entrusted to their charge. The Board of Education meets regularly on the thirct Thursday of each month and Whenever the neefts and welfare of the schools indicate. During these friendly, though sometimes extended, meetings the memhers of the Board resolve happily anct unanimously the prohtems which are presented for their consideration. These men have our sincere and gratefut appreciation for the excellent school system which they have provided for us. 15

X fl, 7 X J X X fu f X 2 P af J- ge , 4' ' A W4 DR. RAYMOND MAURE T was indeed a great day for Hempstead High School when Dr. Raymond Maure hecame its Principal. He hegan college at Vxfesleyan University. After two years there he went to Alfred University to ohtain his Bachelor of Science Degree. l.ater he returned and earned the degree of Master of Arts. ln a quest for greater knowledge, Dr. Maure attended Rutgers, Columbia, and New Yorlc University, where he ohtained his degree of Doctor of Education. His First position in the held of education was that of Viceeprincipal and lnstructor of Science in the Fulton High School, Fulton, New Yorlc. After lneing Principal of another school Dr. lVlaure came to Hempstead lligh to he Principal. He established the First night training school for future aviatorsg these spread through- out the country. He started the First and largest school for veterans in the county and has also made many other outstanding contrihutions to Hempstead and to Nassau County. .He is a memlner of several educational associations, has served on important hoards including the Board of Trustees at Hofstra College, and iust last year was one of the two high school principals from this area appointed to a committee which formulated a plan for the Ulfducation of Youth in American Dr. lvlaure enjoys howling and golf. hut his pet holulny is heating. Clam-digging also rates high on his list of hohliaies. His friendly, pleasant manner is a far cry from the old notion of what a principal should he. Hempstead High School is indeed fortunate in having such an experienced and ahle educator as its Principal. 15
