ARTHUR SNYDER Master of Education This busy personage who hails from California State Teachers College, was on a leave of absence from teaching this year to take on more duties as assistant Vocational Director. FACULTY VOCATIONAL INDUSTRIAL CURRICULUM purpose is to produce a competent worker and a citizen who is economically, socially, e- motionally and physically adjusted. Practical experiences provide students with saleable skills for entrance into a trade upon gradu- ation. lt is a three year program. One-half of each day is spent in trade training and the re- mainder in regular academic classroom work. An exchange program is in effect between Hempfield and Jeannette Senior High Schools in the field of vocational education. A limited number of training stations are reserved at Hempfield for Jeannette students and vice versa, Participating students spend one-half of each day at their home high school for the required academic classroom work and the balance of each day at the other school for trade work. INDUSTRIAL ARTS knowledge acquired in this course gives the students an opportunity to search and discover the field to which they are best suited. All of these courses are offered on an elective basis to students of the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. The subjects offered in the program are Mechanical Drawing, Metalwork, and Wood- working. OUTSIDE WORLD BROUGHT :O STUDENTS WHILE IN SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION Basketball, softball, volleyball, archery, and tumbling, were but a fevv of the activities offered to girls within the Physical Education Department this past year. In addition to these, soccer, wrestling, touch football, table tennis, shuffle-board and track events vvere given to boys. All students must complete three years of physical education in order to meet state requirements to graduate. The department stresses building a strong and healthy body, and it provides a chance tor' development ot individual skills as vvell as a sense of fair play and team vvork.
