UNCEASINGLY STRIVED TO DEVELOP STUDENT'S TALENTS Mrs, Patrick, our capable home economics teacher, watches as linda Poole and Rose Marie Damato show her the proper way set a table. Rose Marie won Grst place in the La-Jean Green contest, white Linda came in second place. FINE ARTS 30,000 people heard the accom- plishments of our vocal groups and the attainment of four adept instrumental groups. The obiectives of the music departments are education, school and community service, four part singing, and extensive learning about different instruments. The Arts and Crafts Program, which develops the students ability to create, observe, and to respond appropriately to harmonious, suitable, and functional environment, is highly indi- vidualized allovving each student a full oppor- tunity to develop his art talents, HOME ARTS interested girls and boys con- tribute to better home and family living, through development of basic techniques and sl4iFls in the homemaking activities. Demonstra- tions are given by the teacher or a home economist, actual experiences are carried out in the laboratory, tield trips are taken to in- formative locations, Visual aids, hlms and filmstrips are also used to supplement ordinary classroom procedures. The active club connected with this course is the Future I-lomemakers Association. Miss Serro demonstrates to Kathy Craycraft, sophomoe Home Economics student, the proper techniques used to create a dress that will later be seen in th halls o Hernpfie'd Area High. ww- X- 23

COMMERCIAL HAS DFJ K I. . .this is the basic factor in the typing course which is one ot the important sublects stressed in the Com- mercial Department. Also offered in the commercial course is Bookkeeping l and ll, Business Exploratory, Business Mathematics, Consumer Education, Economic Geography, General Business, Sales, Shorthand l and II and Transcription. The most modern and up- to-date business machines are available to the students who are taking Office Practice and Machines. These machines supply the stu- dents with an excellent background and teach them the proper and efficient way to operate the business machines ot today. Textbooks, practice sets, bulletin board displays, and film- strips are some of the ways the subjects are taught. The Commercial Department enables the students to secure training which will pre- pare them for a further education or a iob in the business field. DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION better known as D. E., is a course available to members of the twelfth grade only, who are interested in a position in retail selling or any other distribu- tive occupation. Students enrolled in this course spend one-half of their time in class- room subiects which include: English, Econom- ics of Distribution, Store Arithmetic, Job Problems, and other related subiects. They then are employed by local stores in retail selling for the balance of each day.
