G. ELWOOD HOOKEY . . . PRINCIPAL It was indeed a stroke of good fortune for me to become as- sociated with the Helmsburg High School this year. Indeed, it seems as if 1 had been a part of all the many cherished memories that belong to the past and to the present Helmsburg High School. To the graduating Seniors goes the tremendous responsibility of holding high the name of Helmsburg High School. Strive to do everything you undertake just a little bit better. By so doing, the people of this county will point to Helmsburg High School as a real force in the educational matters of this county. To those who will leave Helmsburg High School this year to become a part of an all-county consolidated school system goes a responsibility even greater than that of the graduating Seniors. By doing this. Helmsburg High School, the school where you started your bered as a fine educational institution. educational career, will forever be remem- MRS. EVELYN COFFEY As Secretary, her duties are numerous and requiring. Jack of all Trades is Mrs. Coffey's main asset in doing her job. BROWN COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD Our Brown County Board of Education consists of five members. This board meets once a month or more when necessary; and they discuss school problems which arise and plan for future situations. The members are Paul Wilkerson. president; David Cline, vice-president; Leonard Percifield, treasurer; Loren Moore, secretary and Arlen Ford as the other member. Warren Ogle, superintendent of schools, and Richard Speelmon. attorney, also attend the meetings. This Board of Education came into being in 1949 and at first, they were appointed by the Brown County Circuit Judge; three were appointed for each district and two, at large. Since the first appointments, the members have been elected in the primary elections. Through the years, they have accomplished progressive building programs, such as Sprunica School and the new elementary buildings of Van Burcn, Nashville, and Helmsburg. Brown County is making way for progress; the consolidation of Helmsburg and Nashville prove the efficiency of our School Board.
