Class H lstor On a sunny September mormng ln 1950 we all found ourselves arrlvmg at a br1ck bulldmg called Helmsburg Hzgh School When we entered we dzscovered that Mr Ollver the prmclpal and the faculty were m charge of the whole affazr As we gathered more facts and flgures on th1s strange place called Helmsburg H1gh School we found that the followmg people were called Freshmen Ronald Anderson Frances Beals Clarence Brummett Ronald Ch1twood Duane Clenedenen Russell Clme Sh1rley Collms Martha Durham Shlrley Earl James Earl Ronald Emberton Dudley Graphman Glenn Henderson Robert Holman Roy Hughes Jackle Inclenrock Lawrence Isley Partlcla Jones Margaret Joy Margaret Kelso Rosalyn Klng Roy Kmg Jean Logsdon LaDonna Long Lrllard Long Jr Carol Lucas Alxce Mannmg Eugene Merrxman Jerry Messer Lee Percufleld Melvln Polmg Lols Porter Elmer R1chards Dlana Rlehardson Marlon Rxchhart Allen Schrougham Wllma Shelton Phyllls Sxsson Chester Smzth Lester Smzth Robert Splllman Phyllls Tutterrow George Watson R1chard Watson OrvalWh1te and Yvonne Yoder The offlcers of the class were Presldent Duane Clenedene Vxce Pres1dent Yvonne Yoder Secretary Ronald Chltwood Treasurer Clarence Brummett Thelr Sponsor was Mlss Young Durmg the course of the year we gamed two new members Shlrley Robmson and James Hawley After a lot of hard work and no play we were gxven a four month leave of absence but wlth the commg of the next September we were all back and ready for more Because of our sklll ln acqulrmg the customs of the school we rece1ved a new name Sophomores At the begxnnmg of the new year we found that we had gamed a few new members They were Lavella Reed Carol Marshall and Marllyn Clme Durmg the course of th1s The class organ1zat1on of the Sophomores was as follows Presxdent Ronald Ch1twood V1ce Presldent Russell Cline Secretary Lavella Reed and Treasurer Clarence Brummett Our Sponsor was Mrs Clmgler In the thlrd year owmg to an educatlonal custom the Sophomores became Jun1ors and the1r promotlon made thelr sense of lmportance mcrease out of all due proportlon Th1s was a year of hard work Durmg th1s year the class offzcers were as follows Presxdent Lavella Reed V1ce Presldent Ronnze Chltwood Secretary Yvonne Yoder and Treasurer Jlmmle Hawley The Sponsors were Mrs Wh1te and Mr Bussell Mr Bussell reslgned at mxd term and Mrs Wrxgley took h1s place The mam events of thxs year were the Jumor Class play Grandma s Best Years and the Junlor Sennor Receptlon The recept1on was held at the Skyland Lodge U1 Spencer It was seml formal w1th the gxrls ln party dresses and the boys U1 sults Everyone had a very nzce tlme Ai the and Of thlS year UM ordeal of exammatlons was passed w1th few casualtnes When we returned the next year we had become Senlors through no fault of our own On October 50 we had our Sr mor play R1 st Assured The offzcers of the class were Presxdent Marllyn Clme Vxce Pr s1dentSh1rley Robmson Secretary Margaret Joy and Treasurer LaDonna Long We end th1s hlstory of our h1gh school career when we rece we our dxplomas on May 7 Two former classmates Roy Hughes and Robert Sp1llman are xn the MGTIHPS Bhd Navy respectlvely i I I I ' . , . : ' 1 1 .
