MORGANTOWN, INDIANA Seniors True Blues Through all our years of High School The senior year was the best; And to understand just what I mean You’ll have to read the rest Doris and Margie were our brainy gals, And I don't have to tell you that Maxine and Olive were bosom pals. Phyllis Ann was our dark curly headed kid. We could say the same for Pattie Ann, except. Boy! could she blow her lid! Margaret was known as our cute Baby Face, But you can bet your life Dolores and Darlene ran her a race. When we missed John C. and Charles H„ Just as sure as fate, We’d find them at the pool room instead of keeping their date. Clendenen, Diggs, Kelso, Sawyer, Myers, Robinson and Teague are the names of fame; Because when basketball season rolled around, they were always in the game. Without their Student Manager, they couldn’t have been so hot, For our boy Jim Mllnes was always on the spot. Our guitar and accord!an players that we all did enjoy; We thought they were the greatest, Elmer Dee and Wanda McCoy. As you well remember, Marylln, Mary Ann and Virginia were behind the eight ball; They always got called down by Mr. Oliver in 6th period study hall. Basil was our president who did his job so well; Lueallin, Jone and Catherine as officers, were also swell. Fern, Opal and Phyllis P. were always quiet, they never had much to say; Frieda and June were right the opposite, and so was Eva Mae. Marilyn Tutterrow was like her sister, she always made her tests. And our gal “Susie” always giggled, but she was one of the best. Allen, Raymond and Johnny R. were softball players right from the start. And we had a hard time keeping Wayne and Silas apart. When it came to telling jokes, Howard was full of them, And John J., our boy from Poland, how proud we were to welcome him. We’ve had heartaches and pleasures, but a good light has been won— OUR WONDERFUL CLASS OF ’51”. —By Marylln Logsdon. SENIOR Doris Ann Albright Nickname ............... Usually found •••••••••. Without his guitar Never Laughs The Story of Our School Once uoon a time, a greet many years ago, the forefathers of the town of Helrasburg which Is situated In the county of Brovm, and state of Indiana, saw the great need of an institution of learning wherein their youthful orodigies could be taught the three R s and some other things. The result was that the Helnsburr school was organized. It was very insignificant, of course, as compared with what it 18 today. That is not to be wondered at when one con- siders the difference in the quality of material with which the teachers had to work. It cannot dwell on the early history of this institution, however, more than to say that many of our fathers and mothers and uncles and aunts received their early education within its walls. It seemed to exist somehow or other during all those early years although not any more conspicuous or more famed than other schools of its kind in neighboring communities. It had merely a commonolace existence and that was all. But there later came into its life a wonderful event which has changed it completely and add- ed glory and honor to its name. This event of which I sneak happen- ed four years ago on a bright September morning when a band of greenhorns first made their appearance in the old building. To- day the snlendor and glory of this institution is fairly dazzling and bewildering. It is the history of these four wonderful years that we wish to relate and this I will endeavor to do step by step and year by year. It doesn't seem long ago since that time we were Freshmen, feeling quite grown up and important, under the supervision of Kiss Young and Mr. Oliver, our sponsors. Our first class officers were President: Kenneth Clendenen, Vice-nresident: Finer Dee Voorheis, Secretary: Lueallin Smith, Treasure: Mary Ann Long. There were fifty-seven enrolled as Freshmans, they were as follows: Herman Adame, Doris Albright, Rub; Arnold, Maxine Barber, ’’atty 3ames, Rosemary Bay, Phyllis Beals, Margaret Brown, Olive Clayn, Kenneth Clendenen, Dolores Cleohane, Ralph Collins, Darlene Daffin, Jack Diggs, Frieda Fleener, Kenneth Fleener, Virginia Fleener, Rnrbara Fox, Opal Gatewood, Alfred Gray, Charles Hawkins, Catherine Kaka- vecos, Paul Kelso, MArylin Logsdon, Mary Ann Long, ’ anda IlcCoy, Wayne Merriman, Sue Miller, James Milne3, David Kyers, °hyllis ?er- cifield, Allen °orter, Jone °rultt, June Ratliff, Kelly Reed, John Richards, Robert Robinson, Donald Roller, Kenneth Sanders, Donald Sawyer, Irene Smith, Harry Smith, Lueallin Smith, Barbara Shoaf, Marilyn Sue Tutterrow, Marpilyn Tutterrow, Fern Tu terrow, Eva Voorheis, Elmer Voorheis, °atty V altnan, Betty W'hite, rank Wilson, Basil Zimmerman. The officers elected this year were: President: Basil Zimmerman, Vice-President: Allen Porter, Secretary: Lueallin Smith, Treasure: Frieda Fleener. We had lost and gained members but still had a large class of fifty-three, Her- man Adams, Barbara Shoaf, Phyllis Beals and Marylin Logsdon had en- tered school elsewhere, Frank Wilson, Rosemary Bay, Winnie Tanker- sley who had quit were missed. James TriDp and Donald Roller left in the middle of the year. Rosemary Gipson, Shirley Craig and Fay- lene Durham were new members. Naomie Eakle entered but did not re- main with us long; as she soon moved away. Two enjoyable times to be remembered by all, were the class parties at the home of Mr. Oliver and the Brown County state Park. Our Junior year was full of activities. Between our magazine drive, choosing class rings, selling refreshments at noon hours and ballgames, and making plans for Junior-Senior Reception; there was never a dull moment. Irene Smith and Betty White had quit and got married. Ruby Arnold had entered school in Trafalgar, pattie Barnes had also left us to enter Franklin High School and Alfred Gray had moved to Reelsville the last semester. Phyllis Beals and Marylin Logsdon had returned to join us. Class officers were elected, they were: President: Basil Zimmerman, Vice-President: Jone °ruitt. Sec- retary: Catherine Kakavecos, Treasure: Lueallin Smith. After a few weeks of school Silas Messer and John Jarachovich entered. The olass now had forty-two members. At the close of school we gave a class play; He Couldn't Marry Five sponsored by Mr. Oliver. After summer vacation we returned with the realization that we were in our Senior Year and last year of school. The class officers we chose this year were: president: Basil Zimmerman, Vice-president Jon Pruitt, secretary: Catherine Kakavecos, Treasure: Luesliin Smith, our sponsor was Mrs. Helms. This brilliant class which has shed glory and honor end lustre upon the old school is about to pcss from its porwels and out into the wide, wide world. vlthout the influence of their presence what will become of the derr old institution? Alas and alack I I tremble to think of its future. Virginia Fleener Jean Roget, M.D., a handsome physician ......................... David Myers William Harrison, who has been going to college in the East, is the last of an old Southern family. He now comes South to take possession of his inheritance, a spooky old mansion around which many weird tales are wov- on. Williams's great-grandfather was a leader of the Vengers following the Civil War, and he incurred the enmity of an old Negro witch-woman, who placed a curse on the Harrisons for generations to come. Since that time several of the heirs have died mysterious deaths in the house. According to the superstition, a fiery red cross appears at night to warn a new heir of impending doom. William, however, scoffs at the superstitions, but he does believe the tales of buried jewels and silver, so he invites his sweetheart, her mother and sister over to help him search, but he doesn't intend to stay in the house overnight. Others to appear on the scene are Oliver Mellon, an attorney, and his wife; Andrew Barnes, an entomologist; Patches, a frightened young Negro boy; and Soleless Sam, a mysterious, educated tramp. To everyone's horror Patches becomes violently ill and is attended by a neighboring doctor, who promptly quarantines everyone in the house when he finds that Patches is down with a bad case of scar- let fever.
