For the 1987-88 year, director Deon Peterson hoped just that we develop our abilities to work as o team and pro- gress musically to a higher level. The choir hod around six to ten concerts this year and the oppor- tunity to tour in the spring. The tour went to Portland, Oregon stopping several times along the way to per- form. It's challenging, quality music. -Peter Park Another highlight of the year for chamber choir was the AA Invita- tional in November. The AA schools in Montana get their choirs together for a festival at which they work with a guest conductor and have the chance to meet and sing with other choir students from Montana. Wayne Seitz Getting The Scoop With the return of Wayne Seitz from o year's sabbatical leave, the Lance underwent many changes. Unlike last year's newspapers, the 1987-88 Lances came out bi- weekly, putting more pressure on the staff of 20. To help the paper look more professional and ease the pressure of getting enough stories to fill the paper, the Lance cut three inches off the size of the paper. With this reduction, it was easier to get out many issues without unused space. But size reduction, more issues and Seitz's return were not the only changes. The Lance and Halberd staffs made yearbook history this year by be- ing the first activities to be in color. Lance-front Row- Ann Kendall, flprill Drader, fllex Dunlap, Brendan Scott, flmy Sennett. Girl's Choir is o new experiment this year that has replaced the co-ed intermediate choir. UUhile it is still on in- termediate choir, it is now soley for sophomore, junior and senior girls. There ore 25 students in the choir that perform in six to ten concerts yearly. I hope that we can keep the Girl’s Choir. Whether it will work or not, I don't know. We may need to go back to the mixed intermediate choir. said Choir Director Dean Peterson. They had the opportunity to tour Portland in the spring. The tour also In- cluded a stops in Coeur D'Alene and others to allow the choir various performances and experiences. Hellgate's Freshman Choir is made up of 27 students. They par- ticipate in six to ten con- certs a year, including the music festival which takes place in the spring. It's always interesting to see the progress of the freshmen choir. There is usually a world of dif- ference between the first and last concerts. ex- plained Choir Director Dean Peterson. The Singers have the choice to sing in small ensemble, duets or solos if they choose. Vou see a lot of growth in both the maturity of their voices and maturity of the stu- dent. stated Peterson.
