 'Otto'Matic- Suuinging high for the boll is senior Otto Klein trying to moke the best of his lost year on the Hellgate teom. Swinging W he Boy's Tennis Team successfully completed the regular season 4-1, and one tie. Lost years number one seed graduate Brian Hesler and fourth seeded senior Otto Klein provided a strong pairing for the teom. Unfortunately, the boy’s teams didn't have a single player place in the State tournament. The Girl's team had experienced a very exceptional season. Head- ed by graduate Grin Parks, who would have been undefeated except for one loss. She placed third in the doubles tournament uuith senior Guuen UUatson. High expectations- Scaring for the ball is sophomore Poigje Torgen- son. The team uuill expect high quality from her in years to come. Murph As o freshman. Matt Murphy was asked to try throwing the javelin and by the time track season rolled around, he had broken the school record with a throw of 196 feet. With the help of coach Don Gilman, Murphy was third in the notion. If he wouldn't hove asked me to try throwing the Jovelin, I would hove never broken o record. Murphy expressed. In his sophomore year, he travel- ed to Nebraska and landed the no- tional first place record with o throw of 233 feet, later that summer Mur- phy hod the opportunity to travel abroad to Chino. His junior year was equally suc- cessful. He traveled to Utah for the TAC Junior Olympics and placed 3rd. He then went to the Meet of Champions where oil Montana state dosses compete. He come out on top in 1st place. Murphy started training in November and began throwing in January of '88. In the future, he hopes to get a track scholarship ond improve his throwing skills even more. Voung,6yt effective W he girl's softball team, paced by the pitching skills of senior Un- do Myrdol ond Junior Bobble Ann Duffesne, found the keys to success. By beating the top-ronked teams during the regulor season, Hellgate expected to have a successful State Tournament. Unfortunate- ly, due to scoring errors, the Knights were Forced to ploy top seeded teams throughout the tournament in Cut onk. After their disappoin- ting losess, the young Knight team lo ks forward toward having everyone bock next season with o year of experience under their belts. They hope to moke o strong showing in the State tourney next year In Missoula. Tee B he 1987 golf team mode great progress with the team's positive attitude and eagerness to learn. The team's big- gest weakness was Inexperience and lack of consistency. Despite low scores, head coach Mike Hangas was pleased, saying, I’m pretty happy with their overall performance.” Time The team consisted of graduates Brian Hood, Ben Vonce, Dove UUalden, Dan Archibald, Dove Ar- chibald and several underclassmen girls. The girls are all underclassmen and are Improving. Next year should be strong. Hangas said optimistically.
