200 Classes Daily Mr. Brookie's auto-mechanics course, one of the most popular in the school, offers practical training for boys interested in entering the field. Mr. Cusker, chairman of the science de- partment, has a genuine interest in his students and their parents. He feels the most important addition to the biology classes is the BSCS text book which is oriented around a central theme of ecol- ogy, the relationship between a living thing and its environment. Sentinel is in the process of expanding course offerings. The administration and facul- ty would like to develop a humanities class which would cover art, music, and literature. A forestry course is being considered, and at the present time the vocational agriculture de- partment is using 80 acres given it at Fort Missoula. 17

Coordinating Committee Curricula of Both G uides Buildings Mr. Harold Herbig jokes with some of his students as he ex- plains the piece of music they are learning. The biggest Or- chestra projects this year were the State Orchestra Festival in Great Falls, the Messiah, and the Spring Concert. Mr. Lyle Leischner, Sentinel chemistry teacher, assists one of his students in an experiment. Mr. Leischner, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Miller conduct 12 chemistry classes each day because both seniors and juniors are enrolled in the course this year. The curriculum coordinating committee, under the guidance of Mr. Bewley, is an inno- vation for the high school. It consists of three teachers from each of the buildings elected by the faculty. The duties of the committee are to evaluate the present programs and find areas which aren’t up to standard. The pleasant aromas of freshly canned peaches and the sounds of sewing machines fill the halls outside Mrs. Barta Drummond's classes. Mrs. Drummond, home economics department head, plans her courses to cover everything from child care to pickling. 19 2
