MISSOULA 44-FLATHEAD 40 Missoula barely squeezed out an overtime win over the Flathead Braves in the Spartans return engagement at Kalispell. The Braves had a ten point lead early in the third auarter but it was slowly cut down as the Spartans went to work, At the end of the regulation play- ing time, the score was knotted at 39 all, Mis- soula scored five points in the three minute overtime while Flathead scored only one point. Powell, Anderson, and Bhinehart were all ef- fective in the scoring column and Bray and Borchers were the main-stays on defense. T511 . l t 4921251 MISSOULA 50-ANACONDA 46 Although the Spartans have one conference game yet to play they have won the Big lt3 Conf ference championship with a hard fought game that saw the Spartan fans all but give up hoper of winning as the Copperheads had a 17 to 3 margin midway through the first quarter. ln the second period the Spartans started hitting the bucket and came within tive points of the Cope A L ML' it .,,. , ., if Y N f .ep . Missoula took the lead for the first time halfway through the last quarter and from that time on the game was one of the closest games that the Spartan fans sweated out at home. Powell, Anderson, and Borchers all tied for the scoring honors as they collected l3 points each. Bray and Bhine- hart were exceptionally brilliant on defense. - f X -if 1 . z ' - 3 , . ML t- Qn, , K MISSOULA 57-BUTTE CENTRAL This was the last home game for seven Missoula County High School Seniors. All of them were able to see action before the final buzzer. Borchers, one of the graduating seniors, started the game for the Spartans as he dumped in the first bucket after a few seconds of play. He had a total of nine points to his credit by the end of the first quarter of play, and ended up with a grand total of l7 points for the game. Powell was second on the Spartan team in total points with lO. Bray, Rhinehart, and Anderson all played splendid ball for the winning team. Missoula was never in any real danger as they used a tight defense against the Maroons. I K

Clever defense work by Bray and Rhine- hart played a major part in the Spartan win. Franklin and Tennant were the mainstays of the Brave team. Missoula played controlled ball in the last quarter and Flathead could not aet their hands on the ball enouqh to even the count. With only seconds left in the qame Frank- lin macle the most spectacular shot of the niaht as he heaved the ball from mid-court and it went through the bucket just as the final bell rang. 1 is E
